Is it worth it buying CiM with CiM 2 release right around the corner?

I was not quite sure if I should put this into the CiM or CiM 2 forum but I decided to put it here. Anyway with the CiM 2 release right around the corner and considering that I did already preorder it would you recommend getting CiM? I been looking at it for a very long time and never was really quite sure if I should buy it or not. CiM 2 looks like its got everything to become a classic imho but it is also of course very different from CiM in a lot of ways. One thing I always found particularly intersting was the use of "real" cities in CiM. Now I know that those most likely weren't an exact copy of the said cities but from all I seen and read sofar they have been doing a good job to keep the feeling and flavor of each of those cities intact. I did like the idea of playing a certain city in its different time periods aswell. Since both of it will not be in the game (at least not from the start) I would like to ask those that played it if it is worth to buy it just for those two reasons or do you think these things will come also in CiM2 down the road with some DLC or Addons (I certainly would love to see that)?

tl;dr, but get Cities in Motion 1, it's great, and there's very few problems with the game, 100 hours for me!
The only criticism I have for Cities in Motion 1 is the repetitive buildings and the lack of charm in most cities. The game becomes boring after around 50-60 hours, but that depends on your personal taste :)
I've played for 100 hours, and still, I can return to the game now and then and feel moderately satisfied after a couple of hours.

In regards to Cities in Motion 2, it will be by far a successor of Cities in Motion 1, developing the game in almost all the right directions. All the features that made Cities in Motion 1 so great, and all the connotations to timetables, day and night cycles etc it lacked, and improved in that aspect.
Cities in Motion 2 is almost entirely built around the community, I'd say a huge part of the game's features has been suggested through the forums :D

I would vote no at this point. If anything play the CIM1 demo, wait for 2 and if you really continue to like CIM1 from the demo after playing 2 then buy the CIM1. Just echo'ing what BeanBoy says, 2 is number 1 on steroids from what I'm seeing. I'm not sure I'd go back and play CIM1 after playing CIM2? Time will tell. Maybe get the CIM1 demo for the next couple days.

Me too, once I'm hooked on CiM2, I'll have no time to return to the original. Always happens that way, unless you're playing Simcity and Simcity 4 of course! :)

I'd say yes, especially if you can pick it up in a sale (both Steam and Gamersgate do great deals every now and again) along with the DLCs. I think its also important to emphasise the difference between CiM1 and CiM2. CiM2 is focused solely on modern-day cities, so you get the additional detail of day/night cycles and timetables in (so far) fictional cities; whereas CiM1 gives you one hundred years of mass transit in beautiful representations of real cities.
I believe that this will make them very different to play, which means you can continue to enjoy both! :)

And because of the huge time period in Cities in Motion 1, days are very short.

I'd recommend watching let's play and gameplay videos with commentary, to get the feeling of CiM1 and see how it works. But don't watch any tutorials, as that can easily get you bored, and won't help you get an idea of what CiM1 really is.

I'd go and give it a try if I were you. CiM and CiM 2 are quite different, with CiM 2 focusing on the present days and the U.S. ambiance, and CiM allowing to play from 1920s to modern times in the (mostly Central) European setting. As it's on Steam sale until April the 2nd, so you can have it all: the game, the expansion campaigns, the DLCs - at half price.
It's got an active modding community, too, so that you can install dozens of unofficially made maps, vehicles and buildings, and make it run the way the creators haven't intended, with functional railroads, or streetcars and trackless trolleys used on the same map, to name a few.

To be honest, I've not really played CIM1 since I've been playing CIM2...
But I would not say CIM2 is everything CIM1 was, but better, as they are both similar, and different at the same time...

I'll also add that it was a lot of fun playing the Helsinki map in CiM1 as it's where I've grown up. If you want to try out the real cities you'll have to get CiM1, but CiM2 will probably be way better. I'd buy both. (I bought CiM1 about a month ago)

Okay thanks a ton for all the replies. Since it really is just the real cities I am after I guess I will look at some gampelay for those I am interested in and than maybe buy them at a later time. I think CiM 2 will work just fine for now and since everything else, other than the real cities, is going to be in CiM 2 aswell (and than some) I think I going to have a great time with it. To be honest I have rarely ever been this excited for a game (olny a handful of other games come to mind) as I somehow have a feeling that CiM2 might be a real sleeper hit.
