Is it worth getting Colony establishment speed techs?

Maybe condensing it to a single early tech card that gave +100% would make me consider grabbing it. Right now, the only reason to research them is to stop them from taking up the space in your tech card draws.

If you build a colony in 5 years and get two pops out of it, you can resettle those to your homeworld and immediately build it again, that's the equivalent of ~3.3 pop growth. Add on +75% colony development rate and its like 5.8 pop growth. You are spending a shit ton of resources to spam out colony ships like that though.

Seems like I'm not alone then. Devs, take note: those techs are now fairly useless :)

Suggestion: make each of those techs add an extra pop upon establishment of colony.
I don't think they're completely useless though. If I'm fishing for a tech like wormhole travel, or gate construction, I can pick one of those techs to quickly reshuffle the cards instead of picking something else that cost a ton of research.

The faster the colony is set up, the faster you are growing pops on that colony.

Sure they aren't the best Tech, but like most techs in most iterations of this game many claim to be useless, they aren't as useless as people claim.

They are basically useless. Researching them early is a massive waste of time, researching them late (just to reshuffle) leaves them nothing to do because everything is colonized. What are you going to get out of it, half a pop when you colonize a Ringworld or Habitat?

if you are allways colonizing(machine/hivemind especially... or multi species wide empire) its good to have since you can colonize multiple planets at once without worrying
if you are playing tall... try to ignore it :D
ofcourse its not best tech to get and usually someting you should consider if nothing important in the list
but again I love it as hive mind
