Such as the .txt file from Europa Universalis III.

I just wanted to know which minor states would be in, such as Transvaal.

Finally, how will the changes in country names and flags work? I suspect that historical events will not be the case because of just how different your game could be from History's, so perhaps it will be down to decisions?

Either way, I would be interested to know which states have alternative flags and names.

I have seen that you wanted to play Transvaal before. Both the Orange free state and Transvaal existed in 1836 already in Vicky 1. Not entirely historical, but I think they will be n from the game start in Vicky 2 as well.

Transvaal wasn't formed until the 1850s. They should be revolters, not existing states. I'm glad Transvaal will be included (assuming it is, and your comment suggests it shall be) but the Boer states shouldn't all exist in 1836.

I'm sure someone at Paradox will have corrected this.

They haven't, the map of Africa was shown a while back. Africa in Vicky isn't really historically accurate at all.

For the benefit of both Paradox and ourselves, here is a navigable map of Africa from 1836 (published 1840) - simply zoom in and scroll down to South Africa.

Cape Colony of course exists, which I assume will be territory of the United Kingdom. This should be the only proper territory in South Africa - the rest ought to be ripe for colonisation, though I am sure OHgamer could find plenty of minor tribal states to add : ]

There are no Boer republics.

I think Zulu should be there at least, mainly because of the wars.

Xhosa too, in my opinion.

Austen.

Due to the way game mechanics are modeled, it is definitely best if Oranje exists from the game start. Otherwise, it would probably never exist.

From my understanding the game isn't supposed to follow history to the letter. Either have an historical map of 1836 or a fantasy one, but not a selective mix of the two. The Boer republics should be modelled through game mechanics (Dutch/Afrikaner POPs rebelling against British rule due to lack of devolved reforms/representation, etc.) and not by having historical states exist twenty years in advance.

The Natal republic was established in 1839, so I could possibly understand that existing at the start of the game, but certainly not the Orange Free State or Transvaal.

They may not have have been "nations" per say but they weren't really under the control of the British and were de facto independent.

This is a fair question because HOI3 was spectacularly limited in this regard compared to HOI2, and modding in the same number of revolters caused a severe performance degradation.

Since Vicky2 uses a similar engine, if the underlying causes of this issue haven't been found and suppressed, we may find ourselves with a bare-bone amount of revolters; essentially only historically successful revolters without any fantasy options, like in HOI3.

I really hope thats not the case though :)

No, they were not.

The Great Trek wasn't really under way until the 1840s, with the first Boer republic - Natal - being founded in 1839. Prior to this, there were few if any Boer settlers outside of the territory of Cape Colony, so to suggest they were de facto independent would be a fallacy.

In game terms, there should be Cape Colony (British colonial territory) and a few African kingdoms (if they are being represented, depending on how Paradox wish for colonisation to work) until the 1840s and 50s, at which point the Boer republics should start appearing if the local POPs are unhappy with colonial rule - which should be the case in the majority of games.
