Is it possible to make a road network without clogged traffic at 100k+ pop?

As evidenced by IVIaarten's picture, the possibilities in this game are not quite endless, but nearly. My advice would be not to try to cram to much into each tile, especially where intersections are concerned and don't try to use every last m².

Over 250,000 people in my London map and nothing to worry about. I'll admit to having used the no traffic light mod BUT only in places where they wouldnt be used in real life, like roundabouts and the sliproads to and from duel carriageways. You get the a few lines of traffic here and there but I would be disappointed if you didn't, no real city has NO jams!

My two main tips are these, 1. Dont have loads of junctions close to each other. 2, Make good use of single two way and one way roads. They dont use traffic lights so can be much more efficient especially as part of a one way grid layout with opposite roads going in opposite directions.

Using transport modes other than road is part of the (a) key, IMHO. You can move an tremendous number of Cims through pedestrian walkways and metro lines. Roads should (ideally) be just services and freight. And the freight ideally wants to be balanced so demand and supply are equal within the city - including: as measured by whether the travel time is sufficiently short that the journey will be attempted. My current city, 185K, is suffering from train jams and having supply and demand of various goods too far apart, so the supply gets exported and the demand imported and the trains are too busy.

If you haven't, get a lots of metros and a reasonable number of bus routes into your city. Look at loops within districts and point to point connections between districts. Cims are capable of working out the route themselves. And I think routes that get too long start not working as effectively as well.

Good luck!

For the record, I've managed a city of close to 100k without public transit, and currently have a city of 250k all tucked nicely into six squares without clogged traffic. I also have yet to use a roundabout to help out with traffic, even though that would be the smarter thing to do. As long as you come up with a solid strategy when it comes to pathing and exits, and are willing to do a lot of trial and error, you can make an entirely functional city with the current traffic paradigm.

Traffic still does stupid things, but the reasons why it's stupid and when it is going to be stupid are and is predictable.

I'm up to 130,000 with the no despawn mod (which theoretically makes it even harder!). My biggest problem actually has been the gridlock from recalculating routes, but once that's over with, it's pretty smooth. It's all about a proper hierarchy and intermodal transport system to bear on the problem.

Is there a real city with 100k people without stuck traffic?

I life in a city with 65000 ans approx another 100k in The suburbs ans i am rebuilding it now (first screenshots will come soon) as accurate as possible.

The places where jams occure are so far the same as in real life. I usw the traffic light mod for This.

Because YOU SAID,

Youre saying I can't disagree with that? Of course I can! You've made a statement and asked for opinions, just because people more experienced disagree is nothing personal.
Yes but I didn't say it wasn't possible at all. I left the possibility open for both sides, you can't disagree with that rofl

I think one thing that would make traffic better in this game is realistic public transport capacities. 30 cims in a bus is too low. A bus should fit many more cims. That would clear out the bus stops quicker and we can use less buses per route. I didn't get to the metro or trains yet so can't judge but I think I read somewhere that those are under sized too. Now I'm wondering about cargo train capacities. Those should be cramming packages.

My city is at 75k using the no despawn mod and I have almost no offices. With the correct use of rail to transport goods you can build an industrial powerhouse without traffic problems. It is all about the trains.

I suspect the OP is not a native British English speaker. But I agree with you that, to us when you say you doubt something you're actually saying you don't believe it's possible. :)

You cannot disagree with him doubting. You can only disagree with something not being possible. Which means that, technically, you cannot disagree with his statement as written, except you want to call him a liar about his true feelings in this matter ;)

Anyway, the statement about traffic is obviously wrong. It's perfectly possible.
