Starting 1939, is it possible as either France, Britain, or Britain’s dominions to hold France?

I doubt PDS has done anything with the 1939 start in quite some time, and it is likely to be lopsided balance wise. Alternative start dates seem to have fallen out of favor. I do remember that the 1939 start has Germany in a dominate position. France and Poland get trashed very fast. I wouldn't even bother with 1939, I would rather have a chance to set up my own defense.

As France it would be hard. As UK with request forces from subjects + pre-moving troops into France/Benelux river you can probably stuff enough crap on Italian/Benelux borders to hold.

I have never tried the 39 start date but I am sure its possible. I mean, it was possible to win the Götterdämmerung 44 scenario in HOI3. I guess your best bet would be to be Britain and ferry all your troops over straight away. You should have a lot of them spread on the world. I mostly play with mods so I am not sure how many tanks the vanilla AI throws at you these days?

Gave it a try as France. If you put forts in spots the AI can multi-direction attack and micro painfully until Barbarossa you can hold and eventually wear them out. It's a slow-speed grind, but seems doable.

Apparently , germany don't initiate barbarossa if they don't capitulate france (atleast they didn't in my last 4 game as france )

I gave it a try and while i can barely defend while i keep air superiority , once the enemy AI decide to actually use its planes i lose really quick . Even Italy can be a threat with the absurd lack of guns .

I deleted some of the low width divisions to keep the divisions in use viable. Italy gets 24 divisions on mountain border, they don't get through that.

If Barbarossa doesn't happen (I only played until late April 1940), it's going to be a matter of stalling significantly longer. Japan will eventually attack Philippines and bring in USA, and in my run Germans were at >300k casualties taken by me as of 1940, Italians even worse. Once you get some techs and produce enough guns to create new divisions, the rate of kills will increase. But it will be a slog.

Part of the issue is that UK sends nothing to France. But what if they do? I'd be surprised if this wasn't much easier playing UK. France is trash in AI hands, but they'll still keep at least some extra crap around on their borders.

It's very possible to get Germany to not give the Soviets their bit of Poland, which would take a lot of pressure off you.

I think it's possible as Britain, at least. I was able to delay the German significantly as both the UK and France, without going all-in.
