I bought the original retail version 2007, but i didnt even know english at the time so i ended up never playing it. Untill i got interested in eu4, which i havn't bought yet. So i'm wondering now if its possible without any expansions or mods to form scandinavia?

EDIT: Is there a list for all nations formible in retail version? That'd be helpful too

Well, since its apparantly a decision, which was added in DW. I cant do it then :(

Also, merchants are SO annoying, atm you have to micromanage them ALL THE TIME. I've heard of a auto-send option, but is it in the base game? I cant find it for the life of me

No clue if it's in the base game. In the versions where it exists, there's a bar right beside the "send merchant" button to auto-send which is pretty hard to miss, so I assume it isn't there in your version.

EU3 with DW is a very different game from EU3 vanilla, unfortunately.

So merchants are basicly unusable? Ok :(

I play 'In Nomine' so could be different but try the 'economics' tab in the ledger, about the fifth page is 'CoT' (centres of trade) page.
From here you can send merchants manually or set autosend preferences.
Sending manually is good because you can prioritise CoT's more effectively than with an autosend policy and you will never go unexpectedly into debt which can happen with autosend.
Why do you think merchants are unusable?

Has your version got autosend options on the CoT page of the ledger?

I send manually and don't find it a problem, it's only one merchant every couple of months or so- I quite often just wait until I've got 5 and then open the ledger (game auto pauses when you open the ledger) or I wait until December when I know that I can afford it.

I've just started playing recently so I'm not trying to be 'the expert' on it but it seems to me that if sending merchants feels like constant spamming you maybe should turn the game speed down a bit- I have mine on 3 when nothing much is happening, taking it down to 2 when I'm 'on alert' and 1 when I'm fighting a war and need to keep on top of fleet movement and march and counter-march.

The whole concept of the decisionsystem wasn't installed back in vanilla EUIII. In vanilla the only way to form any other nation or union tag, was dependent on an event. If you qualified for the event trigger, there was a relative long MTTH for said event to trigger. Though I'm almost certain that Scandinavia didn't exist back in EUIII 1.0 / 1.1.

Here are the codes for the nation events back in EUIII 1.1.
1001 Russian Nation
1002 Dutch Nation
1003 Spanish Nation
1004 English Nation
1005 French Nation
1006 Italian Nation
1007 German Nation
1008 Persian Nation
1009 Mughal Nation
1010 Irish Nation
1011 British Nation

To be honest, EUIII vanilla is nigh-on-unplayable compared to EUIII divine wind 5.1 / 5.2.
It took me some time to get adjusted to Heir to the throne and Divine Wind, after I switched from In Nomine. I also made significant personal changes to the game, to tailor it to my own taste.

In nomine onward (base game + the first two expansions) works fine and allows formation of scandinavia. Dont know about only the base game. seeing what the others have posted here so far I gess not.
