Is it Possible to Add DLC Mid-Game

Sorry if this is the wrong place to put this, it seemed like the best spot from what I could fine.
So, I have a save game on Steam that I like so far and want to keep playing. However, I also want to add other DLC like the Distant Stars expansion. Will I be able to see the effects of a DLC if I install it in the middle of a game? Or do I need to make a new save?

I suspect this is an untested situation, so I suggest you make a copy of your save game file before trying it.

it may or may not break your save. there's only one way to find out.

why would you want to do that, anyway?

keep a backup of your last save, then test it. i think, like turning on mods, that this should work except with a risk of bugs.

You can. There is a but however.

Many items are placed during galaxy creation / system initialization. They won't appear since that phase is complete. The extra anomaly results will become available, but if you have few anomalies left on the map, there's a good chance you won't see them.

Some things in DLC can be used in old saves. I started a game with Distant Stars and then got the Humanoid species pack part way through. When I opened the L-Cluster the Dessanu used the cyclops portrait.
