Is it possible for any game to fail as hard as moo3 did ? ( I don't think it is )

I've always felt like people often are too harsh on sequels. They expect to experience the same kind of wonder that you feel when you discover a new universe, with its politics, characters, factions etc. But that feeling will never come back bar a total reboot.

Ahh yes Spore. One of the best editors I ever toyed around with attached to one of the shittiest collection of minigames I've ever played.

Not a 4X but to me my biggest gaming dissappointment was probably Black and White 2.
Black and White was a mixed bag of great ideas and terrible execution, but I loved the game a lot.
Black and White 2 on the other hand was just a terrible citybuilder game with some features from Black and White hastily tacked on.

I personally liked Black and White 2. one of my favourite Pokemon games ;)

Yup. China would make complete sense, but North Korea...? No matter how good the new game might be, I just can't buy into North Korean becoming some kind of super power.

Man I can't even buy North Korea unifying Korea at all, let alone to be a super power.

Not always. Quite a few franchises have had sequels better than their starting game. Usually because they continued building on what they had in the first game by fleshing out the mechanics.

Not everyone will be pleased, that's impossible, but general consensus can make it considered better. For example, Assassin's Creed 2 > Assassin's Creed.

The problems start if you started out with a good original and try to abandon what made it so good in the first place.

They ditched China as the enemy so it wouldn't get autobanned in China...
Shitty reason I know
Oh I know.

Which was a complete absurdity as console business for both Microsoft and Sony was and still is virtually non-existent in China.

And since it was around the time AAA devs didn't care for PC gaming, it sure was a baffling decision to make.

I never got all that excited about the games mentioned on this thread. Although I must say/write that the Rome 2 videos about the gimmicks and other stuff in it, were pretty hilarious to watch.

For me, playing some of these games weren't nearly as entertaining as researching and watching the controversies span years or even decades.

http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2...-dropped-ideas-for-mass-effect-trilogy-ending

Here's what the former lead writer of ME put down into text and public words. The actual creator of the ME universe in lore, written.

Drew attempts to cover for Walter at certain key points, but it won't erase the inside info that got leaked later on during the controversy. Which is that Mac Walters didn't even bring in the ME writing team. There was no "we" involved. It was him and one other guy that decided to go "High Level" with the St Child ending. There was no "we" involved. Responsibility cannot be dispersed nor blame spread around to all the writers on the team, because not even half the writers on the ME team even knew about the ending before it got finalized. That's how "sketchy" it was, which Drew is trying to put into perspective by covering for Walters. After all, Drew might have supported Walters as his successor.

"Some of the ideas were a little bit wacky and a little bit crazy. At one point we thought that maybe Shepard could be an alien but didn't know it."

Now that's pretty funny. I can imagine Mac telling the ME team "we're going High Level explanations with the
Star Child
" and they would reply with that "look". But that didn't happen. Still, it gives people a good idea of how table discussions were had under Drew as lead. They would "discuss" "crazy" ideas". Instead of going unilateral and High Level as Mac did. Because of "reasons", I suppose.

Oh I know.

Which was a complete absurdity as console business for both Microsoft and Sony was and still is virtually non-existent in China.

And since it was around the time AAA devs didn't care for PC gaming, it sure was a baffling decision to make.

Company of Heroes 2 did get banned in Russia for being unpatriotic though.

So that's the price of people being true to their "art". Which, of course, makes me question all those feeding off the Californian money trough, whether their decisions are truly from the heart, based on their heart, or whether EA's profit motivations are more primary.

Ya I don't know why he thinks people are too harsh on sequels. If anything they're overhyped to pieces.

People kep harping on about how great AC2 and ME2 were, but honestly they weren't that great. Mediocre to average at best.

Oh, I almost forgot what a big disappointment Heroes of M&M 6 was. So many things gone wrong in that game. :(
I've heard a lot of people complaining. But if you get past the double DRM it's a very enjoyable game. I mostly play those games for the atmosphere, story and music. There's a lot of beauty to get lost in in MMH6. Uplay be damned tho.

MMH7, that's a bigger flop if you ask me. Primarily due to the hasted development. It's still an enjoyable game but I think a lot of people got bummed. It became somewhat playable after the sixth patch or so.

Not like it matters because CoH2 was just awful in general. The Russian government should get a Nobel for that alone. It'd be more deserving than Obama anyways.
