Is it intended that the Ruler in "Under One Rule" dies from the situation even if immortal?

My ruler became the Chosen One via the Shroud and i wanted to test if the situation of the health crisis still kills them - and yes it does.
To clarify, the situation arose before they became immortal. I don't know if that is an edge case and the situation doesn't arise if they are immortal beforehand.
