My question is which ethoses best represent Space Nazis. Xenophobe and Militarist for certain. Perhaps Materialist as well to model the Nazi obsession with super science that would propel them into space in this universe? Or is Collectivist better suited?

I'd guess Collectivist, due to the emphasis with the concepts of race war and the survival of the Nation. I'm doing a Fascist(not exactly Nazi) playthrough and I'm going for Militarist(glorification of violence and military action), Collectivist and Spiritualist(both due to the emphasys on the Natural Order and the Nation as an immaterial mystical concept whose goals take precedence over the individuals). You can probably switch Spiritualist for Xenophobe and have a good representation of the Nazi regime.

To be quite honest, if in your timeline the Nazis won, it unlikely they ever pursued wonderwaffen to the extent they did in our timeline

Hello,

I'm currently in the process of making a german namelist for a Wolfenstein: The New Order/ Iron Sky -style space nazi mod. I really would like to know if I'm allowed to release such a mod after the game's release.

At first my plan was to include a swastika as their emblem, but I figured that would be against Paradox's policy so I will probably just use a X as their emblem. I also thought of including a portrait of Hitler as the "species" leader, but again, I don't know if that's allowed.

I would really appreciate an answer so I can decide whether to use fictional or real life names.

(Please don't go off-topic)

If you don't use a Swastika, I hightly doubt anyone will say anything negative. Even if you do use a Swastika on your uploaded mod, I'm not sure if you'll get moderated. I know they removed a mod on the Steam Workshop that added rape for CK2; however, Iron Sky did use Swastikas and, I suspect, the only reason Paradox doesn't use them in HoI4, is because they couldn't sell the game in Germany.

It's safer to avoid it, but its your call.

I think Fanatic Xenophobe/Militarist would be best. An empire built on alien slavery and war for living space sums them up nicely, no?

This is not my view of the issue but here is how german authorities might see it (have seen similar issues in the past).

1. Something in the Mod is illegal (certain Nazi symbols, holocaust denial, or some stuff that is violating the dignity of the victims).
2. Yes Paradox isn't responsible for the Mod BUT if the Mod is on a platform that they can moderate they are obliged to do so to keep their product legal in Germany.

This can result in strange issues. i.e. magazines got banned for covering games that were banned from advertisement for violence (youth protection). Eventhough the game wasn't restricted when the magazine got released (and yes you can call for a trial about the issue but when the verdict comes in the magazine is already old news...).

For the question why some Nazi mods for other games there are two possible explenations why those never resulted in a hassle with german authorities:

1. No accuser = no judge.
2. A game that plays out in the right historical backround may play the education card (the only exemption for some of the stuff).

Overall I can understand why a publisher doesn't want to get into trouble on these issues. German law bans your product first and then allows you to court afterwards...

Materialist wont fit, since the nazis tried to swap christianity not for atheism, but for some weird kind of neo-germanic faith with occultist elements. Much of the whole racists beliefs of naziism came from esoteric movements in the 20s.
Xenophobe is a no brainer, collectivist too, I'm not quite sure what of those would be fanatic, you could do both if it were possible. But I would give them Xenophobe, Collectivist and Militarist. So no fanatic there, just because the game doesn't allow it.

wow guilty till proven innocent the german's sound like such a just nation

You'd have to ban it in advance, if it's relatively certain that it goes against laws. Banning it after the fact would be censorship.

Collectivist doesn't work; the Nazis wanted others, not themselves, to be slaves. It should be fanatic xenophobe since that gives max alien slave tolerance.

Overall the system works different and overall there is no censorship. The two exemptions are Nazi bans and youth protection (mainly violence).

And other nations have their sticky lines too. You are much more free on the issue of sexual content in Germany than in the US.

The real point in this case would be that it is reasonable to expect Paradox can moderate the workshop. If the Mod was released somewhere else the issue would change.

{No Nazis, Pirates, or Porn} NAZIS -It IS illegal to show Nazi flags in Germany and various other countries. The same is true for other Nazi symbols (e.g. related to the SS) or Nazi propaganda material, including songs etc. Any links posted to a scenario or mod which includes a Swastika or other illegal Nazi symbols will be deleted. This also applies to any talk of concentration camps, as these are not and will not be in the game. Any threads that complain about this issue will be closed, and posters will be subject to disciplinary action for having done so...

With that said, it is a shame the Iron Sky Nazi flag can't be used, since it is pretty stylish (the regular flag but with shading to represent an eclipse). Maybe you can use The Great Dictator variant of the swastika instead and edit in the eclipse of the Iron Sky Nazi flag.

Otherwise, with a German name list, it doesn't really seem that hard to be a not-Nazi Nazi in Stellaris.

With the Nazi ban you could call it censorship (also some german lawyers would object on some theoretical topics).

The youth protection more or less works the same. But some call the harshest response censorship. It is some kind of over 18 with extra caution. The product isn't illegal then it just becomes forbidden to advertise it. That means it doesn't even is allowed to be visible on a shelf. The customer has to ask for it.

I have to confess here that I as a german am not pro the length this policy goes. But currently that is either the minority or at least not high enough in people's preferences to push for a change.

On the Nazi symbols I'm more or less ok with it. I can see that it can lead to problems that were not intended but name one policy that aims perfectly.

Steam might be against it.

So i woudnt use real names at all. But maybe work with similar symbole and stuff. like the "New Order" in starwars wich is cleary Nazi inspired.
if there woud be a mod, i more than happy to stomp those fuckers over and over and over again.

you shoud keep it at a ironic level like ironsky.. i think everything else is inappropriate. Espacially in these times were xenophonia goes way to high anyway, and populist parties aka taht Trump-thing use it already.

But thats my personal Opinion.

Please leave everything concerning symbols like the swastika, the ss runes, the Totenkopf ss symbols etc out.

I'm saying this as a German jew.

BTW: the difference between Stalin and Hitler is not this big. They were both mass murders.

There are symbols cooler than the Swastika, especially if you're basing it off Wolfenstein. Not to mention that there's an in-game eagle symbol.

to many people have this weird fascination with nazi's. Go play a nazi if that is your idea of fun I won't stop you. After all isn't that what our grandparents fought for. I'm sure they would be delighted.

Space Nazis need Space Zeppelins. Mod is pointless without 3d models of Siegfried-Class Warships, no Meteorblitzkrieg without them.

Forget Swastikas and Hitler, just use the stuff from Iron Sky. It will be even better.
