I want to create basically useless or even harmful species and spread them through migration treaty. I don't have much experience with gene modding so I'm not sure how it works. Is it possible to give additional bad traits?

Memory serves, you could just genemod out positive traits- leaving any negative traits the species already has

and I had an idea like this once; spreading bad pops all over via migration treaties as a means of trolling my friends who keep insisting we have open migration. Obviously they need to be shown the flaws that this "open movement and freedom of determination" nonsense can bring!

What a shame. I want to create a space cancer species with extremely adaptable, rapid breeding and all possible negative traits and watch them cover entire galaxy with their useless body...

I could see an authoritarian regime doing this to a slave species, covering a planet in said species, making them intentionally unhappy so to encourage migration away from the world and selling the planet to another empire, one that allows migration.

Or, in some future expansion, doing the same thing with a diseased or zro/drug addicted species to weaken a rival empire by rotting it to the core

forget more phenotype DLCs, give me the corrupting power of truly evil acts of inverse eugenics!

Personally, I play authoritarian with an over-sized navy budget for a reason~

and I guess thats the danger involved in trying to use people as weapons; said weapons turning back on their creators. It's not like Stellaris isn't already full of it's own living-weapons (Prethoryn, xenomorphs, gene-warriors, etc), just that these would be more metaphorical than the other examples listed.

You can't remove positive traits, and you can't take negative traits, IIRC.

Yep. I already had the idea to fiddle with negative traits to create a perfect soldier/slave race for my empire. But since I can't get more gene points from negative traits, it's a bust.

(Imagine adding decadent for a free trait point in a species that will be 100% enslaved. Then you add solitary and deviant for two more trait points, which should allow you to turn any species into very strong and industrious for the perfect fighting and slave mining species. Who cares if they are unhappy or have diverging ethos? They are 100% enslaved.)
