As of 2.0, Imperator Rome, is easily the best strategy game Paradox made yet. Unfortunately, many nations are missing content. Outside of Hellenistic world, there isn't much. However, if the Hellenistic world picks your interest, its easily endlessly enjoyable. Unfortunately, it seems the development cycle is done. It's not likely, what there will be more content.

I mean the game is called Imperator: ROME - we're lucky it even allows playing anything other than Rome
Hey, I've seen this one, this is a classic!
It's the "it's Crusader Kings and Europa Universalis" argument.

Hey, I've seen this one, this is a classic!
It's the "it's Crusader Kings and Europa Universalis" argument.

All I'm saying is that the title implies that's where the focus is, so that's probably a richer experience. It's also negated somewhat obviously as more development time goes into a series, or when we get DLCs (with names specific to what's added, see?) which enhance specific types of game play. I think it's fair to say this and it's generally a good rule of communication, right?

I can agree that this probably holds less for later releases, as a game's scope and size expands, since at that point they have a brand with a cool name established and it'd be counter productive to change it anyway.

Maybe my memory fails me, but I definitely remember early EU European nations being a lot more interesting than playing faraway nations. I can't speak on the original CK release since I missed that one, but if I had to guess, I'd guess that Europe was the focus.

Edit - Okay I will concede the "we're lucky" part of that comment probably goes a bit far. :)

Well...40% of europe. Anything other than feudal wasn't playable and some still aren't.

Yeah, that was really my point of contention.
You'd be right in 2012, as said above CK2 showed how not only the focus, but the entire development time went for the "crusaders", but since then PDX has clearly moved away from this approach.
So focus? Yeah, sure, but being "lucky"? No, not at all.
