One of my other headcapping machines is a grasshopper, just because you can get like 10 lasers on the damn thing. I've slowly been getting S-Pulse and +dmg Slasers alongside MLasers and Jets. I can't fill every energy slot even with a heat exchanger and sacrificing some rear armor, but it feels like a pretty mean machine even if it's probably sub-optimal given Slasers aren't doing enough damage to make it an any 2 hit build.

SLs are very good damage wise because they're super efficient, even if they can't two-hit alone (SL+ML can headcap). The issue is just range.

Thanks! And you are ofc right, but also the range goes up significantly, esp. compared to the 'reference' setup with 3*UAC2 and 4*ML.
But compared to a LL based setup you get a huge bump at 0% DR but at the cost of lacking sustainable damage, which for a long range build is quite important. Because in principle you should be able to fire more often than shorter range builds, particularly if you have a rangefinder.

Dont get me wrong, i prefer the 3 UAC2 / 4 ML setup over the one with 4 LPL. But i think the latter has it niche. Actually i am currently running both in my headcap squad and they complenent each other quite nicely imo.

I'm not advocating one over the other but saying that if you're going to evaluate the LPL setup imo it should not be compared with a medium range build (or not at first) but with a similar range one, like the 4xLL.
