Is discipline/morale and other modifier calculated on a per unit basis or a per battle side basis?

I was in an MP game where me and my ally was warring ottomans.The ottomans have around the same discipline as me but my ally got low discipline but he got a better leader who takes over in our joint battles, then in the battle screen it shows my allies discipline.
Does that mean that then my units are using his lower discipline but higher morale?

AFAIK each regiment uses their own modifiers. Only the general is applied to all regiments

Each regiment have their own discipline, morale, etc. The UI is misleading because it only shows the discipline of the leading general's side.
