I remember playing CK1 that after 200 years have passed, the number of characters goes up in the game exponentially and eventually would cripple the speed of the game. So while it used to take 30 seconds to pass a month (on medium game speed), it eventually would take 2 minutes go through a month. Not only that, the game also becomes laggy that would make it unplayable for weaker systems.

Is CK2 designed differently to prevent this from happening?

Have you tried the demo? It's as quick as lighting. Also, when I was going trough some files I noticed the game actually limits the amount of children a person can get.

Is that per marriage or per person? I was playing last night and had 8 kids when my wife died, married a lustful 16 year old and never had another child, so that would explain that. Or my king became infertile.

AFAIK humans don't have this restriction, and yes it's per couple.

When I played the early preview version, the game slowed down a LOT when some years had passed. But luckily this has been completely solved, and I am very happy with how the game runs now. I think it still slows down a little, but it's almost unnoticeable and does not disturb me.

Im not worried about performance but I admit I'd like a little checkbox to hide all the dead characters when looking at a someone's character window. Some people have over a dozen siblings, most of which are dead, and its a bit cluttery at times.
