Too soon to tell. Some peeps seem to enjoy it pretty much, so it pleases someone. But even those who enjoy it recognize the problems that are still present. The 1.05 patch better solve some of the more serious questions tough, or Paradox risks a major flop with this game.

Myself I have stopped talking because I have already spoken about all the flaws of this game, and I will wait until they are at least partially resolved before make any new comments. All common issues have been discussed in-depth, and there tends to be a limit where people think it is enough. Just notice the "CK rant thread" above; it was started by a person who has had enough talking about the problems of CK and thought of coordinating them in one single thread.

Where CK will finally find itself among the Paradox games in terms of quality only time will tell. We must include further patching down the road until we can make a final judgement.

That a game needs patch 1.05 to really work the way it should out of the box is disturbing...

But since I haven't been able to buy it yet, I'm not worried! When I get it, it should be fixed enough to work.

Well, it only goes as evidence against the, ahem, fans of CK who claim that the people who take serious issue with the game are just whiners. People have gotten sick and tired of a game that, at this point, fails to live up to its concept or potential, and especially sick of being attack and condescended to by the people who love the game as is. There is a large community of people, including myself, who have done everything we can to fix the game, have pointed out the flaws in huge detail, have suggested fixes, etc. and now all we can do is wait and hope that 1.05 fixes it.

So, to answer your question, until the major issues of this game are addressed (the Iberian & Mongol situations, the crusader engine, the lack of a ledger, the inability to make your vassals make peace etc.), this game is a failure. It is up to 1.05 to solve these problems.

I think the point was that sales might not be doing well as indicated by the lack of questions and discussion from new customers.

When it went on sale from PE there was a flood of messages and questions, but the NA release does not appear to have replicated that at all.

It might be too early, or the game still might be difficult to get, but it is a little peculiar that so little is being written in this forum from new buyers.

Mmm... I don't think CK has been a failure in Spain, quite the opposite. In fact I would think right now it's actually the most active game subforum in the Spanish forums.

There can never be a ledger made into CK at this stage, it would be a new feature requiring new graphics (=huge installer for the patch) and make the manual fully obsolete.

Mongols, Muslims, crusaders and vassal peace treaties are all things that propably can be fixed and, provided Paradox sticks to it's excellent customer service policy we have learned to rely to, will be fixed.

I don't see why a ledger would require that much new graphics, and it's not like a ledger would compete with the manual, they would compliment each other.

As of now, the game has some *serious* flaws, that hopefully will be fixed in the future.

Odd that CK got such good reviews whereas the public dont seem too impressed. Victoria on the other had was not so well recieved by the critics but has a very loyal following. Personally i like this game but only in mp. It has fallen far short of its potential though.

Roughly estimating half of the posts in HoI2 forum are like: "Woot", "great!" or "I can't wait to get the game!"

I think CK will out sell Victoria by a clear margin but it will fall short of EU2/HoI sales levels. It is possible that forum activity during the North American release remains somewhat muted because many forum members purchased through the Paradox store and have been playing the game for months.

Well, let me be more blunt: if something is not changed so that the player can actually control his court via 1. the dynasty screen and the 2. assign position screens, the game is simply a failure. Considering most courts get to be 200+ in size with any type of time, the present state makes it IMPOSSIBLE to chose a specific character from the dynasty screen, as the portraits at the bottom of the screen become a giant blob of identity. The screen where you assign state positions (not to mention the grant a title screen) is equally ridiculous as you have to individually sift through each random courtier to find what you're looking for.

Unless Paradox finds a way to sort these screens, I would consider the game, in addition to its multitude of other faults, a failure; this is something so simple, so run-of-the-mill, so necessary for convenience and playability, that it would be a ridiculously huge design mistake for Paradox not to address.

In a game built around dynastic politics, I can't see who's in my court!
