With the Emperor update, I have heard a lot about Aragon actually being a better nation than Castile. Is this true and is there a good guide for as how to play Aragon in the Emperor Update.

Aragon has some other interesting's goals, for example, become part of the empire or a merchant empire. If you are going to form spain Aragon gives unique missions. If you are not going to form spain Castile starts out better.
You PU Portugal in mission trees tho, so why would you core them?I like Aragon a lot better for different reasons:
1. You can get to the Genoa node a lot easier.
2. With your good mil ruler, you can do an easy timing war against the French and Provence once you hit tech 4. You then can take the provinces to feed the french releasables later for fewer AE.
3. Not stuck with Castiles bad ruler. If you like to save-scum you can easily get the promising daughter event with Aragons old ruler, if you disinherit his heir. This gives you the Wedding early, and also a good ruler.
4. You get to keep Naples.
5. No Castilian Civil War, and they can also deal with the Granadan revolt for you.
6. You don‘t need to core Portugal yourself but get them for free if you feed them to Castile. You do need to watch the province count though, in order to stay under the required provinces for Spains diplomatic formation.
3. Better position to go into Italy early, in general.
I would also recommend declaring Navarra of vital interest if you allied Castile and then take it early so you’re not stuck with them as a PU.
In my opinion, the only downsides to Aragon are that you probably only want to take exploration second or third and thus colonize later and that you‘re on a timer for the Spain decision because them having colonised to many provinces makes them ineligible.
Worse because the mission tree doesn't change if you form Spain diplomatically, you need to integrate castile and flip to castilian culture before forming SpainWith the Emperor update, I have heard a lot about Aragon actually being a better nation than Castile. Because you have to hold the PU for 50 years and dont get the trade power and resources as soon as you integrate Castile, for free. You PU Portugal in mission trees tho, so why would you core them?
You can auto integrate on monarch death, and integrating spain via decision means you don't get spanish missionsBecause you have to hold the PU for 50 years and dont get the trade power and resources as soon as you integrate Castile, for free.
Integration of monarch death is only after 50 years, and it‘s only a small chance on such big countries. You can auto integrate on monarch death, and integrating spain via decision means you don't get spanish missions
Investing in dip ideas can mean faster integration via monarch death than integration aloneIntegration of monarch death is only after 50 years, and it‘s only a small chance on such big countries.

You can declare war on an African and give the colonies to them, England and France might also accept themInvesting in dip ideas gives a small chance rather than little to no chance. There is a decent chance of inheriting one of Naples or Portugal, but it's more something to hope you get lucky for than something to plan for.
Feeding some of Portugal to Castile greatly increases the chance of inheritance and gives you a larger share of the Sevilla node after forming Spain. I think feeding Castile is playing with fire, though. It's very easy to give a colonizer too many provinces to form Spain by decision.
You just have to be non-Aragon/Catalan culture, for example, Occitan. Better yet, form Spain as Mongolian culture for more OP missionsWorse because the mission tree doesn't change if you form Spain diplomatically, you need to integrate castile and flip to castilian culture before forming Spain
But aragon is well poised to form Italy, and can PU feed Navarra to much of France so not too bad
I stand correctedYou just have to be non-Aragon/Catalan culture, for example, Occitan. Better yet, form Spain as Mongolian culture for more OP missions![]()
