My understanding was that the game was supposed to be about your dynasty. Thus getting titles under your dynasty was a success in and of itself regardless of if the title was under your rule. At least I felt that way when I was marrying off family and later having them gain a title some where far away.
I'm wondering if it was even intended that you be able to control the whole world personally. With threat level now it seems like they're trying to get it the way they intended. Have your dynasty be everywhere, but not you personally. They've said they went with external pressure rather than internal pressure to slow expansion because many would find it unpleasant if their realm just up and broke up leaving them with parts that might not have been their top choice. Granting independence to a kingdom takes 50% from your threat level. It seems like they set it up so you would voluntarily break up a vast realm by setting up every title in a kingdom from top to bottom with your dynasty and then giving it independence, lowering your threat enough to get another. The new independent kingdoms could then take other lands and wouldn't affect your threat level but still spread your dynasty.
So is establishing your dynasty everywhere not hold any interest to people as opposed to having everyone as your vassal? I haven't played a game long enough to really try this as it's new and I usually want to try something else by that point but I'm wondering if anyone has tried the conquer-revoke-release method of planting your coat of arms everywhere.

Yeah, i dont know why they have removed this feature. Paradox should readd auto-allies when same dynasty, but you should be able to manually call them to war and also should be able to decline their call to arm (like it was before).

No, it´s not worth.

My actual playthrough, I formed Scandinavia and after a Great Holy War my Infamy/Threat went up to 50%; decreasing by 0,21%/month. I released the Wendish Empire, which gave me a decrease of 6% and it was about a fourth of my Scandinavia Empire. Wendish Empire shattered in few years because of revolts, invasion and de-jure wars. Lost a strong ally over 2 Generations.

Keep your kingdoms, baronies and whatever bcs the "bonus" by granting independence is not worth.

I deal with that Infamy I have and idle a grand-strategy game. These values needs serious rework or give us techs, buildings or events to decrease it. Maybe Embassies, Techz, Events, Family releations or or dump of threat when the Ruler dies

Unfortunately, the code for that is gone (according to the devs). If you aren't opposed to mods, I have tried modding in a system that's relatively close to the old system, which appears to be working reasonably well and that the AI isn't misusing too badly (based on several observer games from 867 where I have been paying especially close attention to how the Karling realms ally one another).

I have, I actually granted Germany independence after a GHW. I just couldn't manage to religion flip all of those provinces over. First I renamed it Germuva, because Germany sounds too Christian. Then, being an emperor, I just granted some random cousin the title, with all titles beneath it, and then independence.

Subsequent Holy Wars resulted in Danmuva, Swemuva, Normuva, Rusuva, and Ruthuva.
Danmuva was annexed by Germuva, because I gave it to the current king's uncle or something. Normuva was in a union with Danmuva.
And Swemuva was given to them immediately after the GHW by the system, the title never passed through me.

Rusuva was given to a relative, and is quite strong, fending off the Muslim Siberians (You read that right) and the Suomosenko Finns.

Ruthuva was given to a person who converted to my religion, but what was part of the ruling dynasty. She was quite old, and died. The title passed to her cousin, who was of a different dynasty. I married him to my sister Matrilineally and I next generation, I'll have another strong dynastic kingdom.

The A.I. is great at flipping the religion of provinces very fast.

They also are pretty powerful during wars.

Germuva, for example, actually Holy Warred for ALL of de sure Bavaria within a hundred years. They've also capture France up to Paris, and they're really stable.

In my current game as the Empire of Carpath, I just conquered the Byzantine Empire to stop its cycle of defeats against the muzz. I had already succeeded in converting the entire empire to Catholic, but it wasn't enough, so I used my claim inherited from my mother to take the crown.

I have zero interest in keeping it, because I want to keep my perfect de jure Empire of Carpath.

But I'm not even going to bother putting my dynasty on the throne.It's completely useless, they will disappear anyway. I've successfully put my dynasty on the Bavarian throne, and since I'm in 2.4.5, I was keeping them on medical assistance, helping them to fight off all revolts... But in the end, they just accepted without a fight a demand for Elective, so...

I give away titles quite often. However granting someone an Empire should relieve more than threat. I gave away a super Italia that consisted of Italy, Siciliy, Africa, Mali an Maurtania. It reduced my threat by 1.6%.

Holy war as pagan, so would I be mistaken, if I said that you probably put your dynastic members on every level of the conquered lands ?

It's easier to keep your dynasty on the throne, if each and every count and duke is from the same dynasty. And as a reformed pagan, there isn't usually lots of competing dynasty, because most of the world conquered by your faith is ruled by the same family.

Actually, no. Very few of the vassals are of my family. I didn't even organize the lands, that was done by the A.I.

Ok. Well, I don't know then.

I think they're so stable, because literally the rest of Europe is so weak. The Christians are constantly fighting amongst themselves over petty de jure claims, so their levies are depleted. That's how I captured Germany in the first place. Germuva has like 27k troops. The next most powerful Christian realm has 11k troops...

This is my normal play style!

AI does have a habbit of doing some dumb things so you gotta keep an eye on your family holdings.
Like be sure to marry those 12-15 year old female heir's or female rulers in regency!
Be sure to Join Wars to help them maintain the peace!
And don't set them up to fail....

If you win a holy war and give them 8 county's and 2 duchy's and then shortly afterwards grant them independence your setting them up to fail.

Give them 1 county and a Duchy
give another dynasty member a county
and another dynasty member a county

*Ensure there in different parts of your family tree* (avoid ambitious people)

Wait until the holdings actually have troops they can defend themselves with!

Ensure all the land holders were married

Now you release them and now you watch what plays out there maybe some revolting there maybe some mischief but because all the holdings are your dynasty it should stay in the family for far longer then if you let him divide out his holdings to all those random people from other dynasty's!

And honestly this play style works very well, and is far more enjoyable in my opinion then painting the map under one person, there is no real challenge in that type of game!

Oh and its far better to release Kingdoms if your can and make sure your king nomination has a troop desparity. Be sure to give him 1 duchy with all three county's but not more then this, The AI won't keep a large number of holdings they will divide them up so keep him within his capacity to manage!

I give independence to some duchies as a nomad, when they're surrounded by lands of my vassal khans to see how long they would survive. :oops:

In my current Italian game, I took Africa and Mauritania from the Muslims and gave them to my relatives and set them free. So far all they've done is dig into Mali :D It's a nice tactic if you want to quickly get rid of infamy. I didn't have too much interest in that area anyways so it didn't matter if I lost direct control.

The only time I ever willingly granted independence to anything was when I spun off a Duchy of Galloway ruled by the son of a Jew I had unwisely landed. Daddy was grateful enough to cooperate with me, but his son Rava was an asshole with seemingly no comprehension that he was an island of Judaism (literally: his capital was Ellan Mhannin) surrounded by heavily armed Christians. He didn't last ten years afterwards, but he did manage to kill a king of Pictland before a holy war dislodged him.

The only other time was when an Independence faction blindsided me shortly after succession and I was in no shape to crush the revolt. Two of the independent counts lost their realms within a handful of years (one to the Norse, one to a Fraticelli uprising), and I eventually recaptured them all.
