Is a plant class of species a good idea?

We already have Fungi, and if done well, I can see some major differences between the two classes, however we already have species in Fungi that look like they could belong with Plants. Aren't there some other classes that should probably be there before we get into plants? Like amphibians and such.

Some of the reptiles look like amphibians. More diversity is better, what they are called is not really important.

It's semi-important because it at least affects diplomacy a little bit. It would be kind of weird playing as a feathery mammal or a plant like fungus, or an amphibian like reptile. It's a small thing but it affects my immersion.

Why not?

More species is a good thing, though I think there's already a good number, so it's not like it's a terrible thing if they shelved for now it due to time constraints.

Question is which species (not picture) would add a good amount of flavour to the game? I couldnt come up with any... (besides artificial life forms).
Arthropoid cover insects and aranae.
Avian is pretty self explanatory.
Fungoid could pretty easily cover plants aswell (yeah I know, wrong regnum...)
Mammalian is the same as Avian
Molluscoid could cover at least some ocean life forms
Reptilian would be happy to include amphibian aswell.

Edit: Most new species can easily be added to an existing species with another Icon.

As I've noted elsewhere, I think we'd have a lot more variety if it was broken down thus:

Carnivorous
Herbivorous
Scavenger
Omnivorours

With a small selection of subclasses. I think this would give us a lot more versatility, because then the portraits could be used interchangeably (for example, dinos and birds are closely related, but any dino class would be put in with reptiles, so how do you deal with species that blur the line?). But, I realize that this won't happen, and is more realistically slated for mod-land.
Sadface.

It would be cool if each of those groups, carnivores, herbivores and such would receive a small bonus.
Carnivores= military bonus
Herbivores= farming bonus
Scavengers= ???
Omnivores= small military and farming bonus?

I'd say Scavengers get a bonus to reduced food eating because they can eat food that is going bad. SO it'd be similar to the farming bonus. But on the eating side instead.

My thought on Scavengers is that they'd get a tech bonus on debris research.

But, yes, this was my basic thought with these classes as well.

I'd actually really like a Plant phenotype! But yes, more aquatic/amphibious options would be awesome too. I think I enjoy the more bizarre options in the race creation so both of these would be a great additions.

Although if they add aquatic races, I'd like the art to reflect the submarine nature of their cities on Ocean planets at least.

First we have to free the marsupils out of the mammal category!
It's nice to have a space platypus, but space opossums, wombats, koalas, kangoroos and tasmanian devils need to be there in in their own category.

Plants would be nice too, just imagine how weird some aliens based on orchids or cacti would look.

I get why plants are different than fungi: It's believable that fungi process food in a similar way than animals. For plants the same is not entirely true.
The food system would have to be radically different for plants.

Unless they were inspired by carnivorous plants, then you might be able to make a similar argument -- either way I'm happy to assume all those farms are just... green houses.. er ... or something (you're right really but hey! I want my plant phenotype on/near release and an alternative food system is some DLC level stuff)
