As far as I can tell Irregular units are not impacted by any doctrines as of now.
I think that there is a point to be made that they should be impacted by a lot of the infantry boni from doctrines.
Opinions?

no, theyre not 'infantry" theyre "irregulars", then they dont need have the bonuses.

the doctrines bonuses represent the application of the doctrine from regular armies, with a command chain, specificy training et all..

but the "mass mobilization" branch can have perhaps something to irregulars without break the "theme".

makes them even more worthless compared to normal inf divisions.
  1. ETH's Chitet are actually indispensable at the start. Lower supply consumption, hefty bonus fighting in desert, 6INF instead of 4INF regular infantry template ETH starts with, stratospheric bonuses you get for them through NFs.
  2. Yet you're right they are practically useless starting from late 30s since you cannot edit the template. But guess that was exactly the PDX's intention -- give good enough starting units with their own unique strengths yet oblige the player to manage transition to a different kind of force later on. Just another game mechanic to offer diversity in strategies and playthroughs. Rather good thing :)
  3. I'm kinda sceptical about how specific things were implemented for ETH yet I truly believe the host of ideas per se are brilliant. Some need polishing, some may not work in the end yet that's normal with new ideas. And IMO dev team shows good performance in terms of polishing and balancing now. Just give guys some time. After all they never know in advance how wider audience will use new mechanics. If you're a dev that knows all the gears inside you'll never be able to play the way a casual player will. You can't make yourself forget things. Devs just need time to gather meaningful stats.

I think the Italian irregulars in game represent more like colonial/light infantry rather than a true "irregular" e.g. self-formed/self-supplied troops. Also irregular forces are often integrated into the chain of command actually, see for example in the Spanish civil war (which should also have irregular units btw...). I think it's fair that they don't benefit from the support (mortar/machine gun), techs, but they should benefit from doctrines IMO.
