The Haudenosaunee were a key player throughout the timeline of EU4. I think there are many things that could be done to improve the game play of the New World. I think North America makes a splendid place for multiplayer battle royals, as there is a strong balance of power between the countries. In addition the low resource requirements and unique diplomacy system create an environment where more inexperienced players can cut their teeth in the New World and face off against the 5-6 best players on colonial powers. Eu4 has largely ignored the New World, but the game could add some great flavor by telling the story of their conquistadors and the people they encountered. Iroquoisa is a great place to start. Haudenosaunee influences can be clearly seen throughout America and should be taken seriously.
The traditions given to the Iroquois in eu4 currently are centered in navel bonuses suggesting developers intended these nations to be well positioned for a sunset invasion. While I think that this is an interesting game play idea, I do not think it fits the Haudenosaunee. I think the best course of action would be to simple create a new idea group for Iroquois nations. For example
Traditions:
Female advisors available
+ Infantry shock
Ideas:
One Spoon + Production
Friendly Exchange + Merchant
Tender relations + stability
Three Sisters + Tax modifier
Two Row + Diplomat
Under the Knife +Morale
Bury the Hatchet + improve relations.
Ambition: -Aggressive Expansion
The use of Clan Council as a government type grants a opportunity to use the clans as estates. Different nations could have unique clans to help diversify the game play experience. Balancing the power of the clans could grant bonuses, for example
Federations are an interesting and dynamic addition to the game, and the leviathan update went a long way to make North America playable. One of the greatest opportunists of this system is to create unique federations that grant the player a flavorful and enjoyable play through. The Haudenosaunee League should be a powerful collection of nations who can each invest monarch points to grant a permanent bonus to all members. Other unique federations could be the Council of Three Fires, The Great Sioux Nation, Miki'maqi, Shawnee Nation, Lenapehoking, As well as the Illinois, Miami, and Kansas confederacies.
I've thought quite a bit about how to improve gameplay in the Americas, and I'd be happy to be answer any questions.
