I think it is a great idea! it means your achievemnts are worth something. especialy if you're doing a more difficult one.
Achievements should be there to show off and test your skills. Not allowing mods that can make a game easier and not alowing savescumming perfectly fits with that.

I personally see them as "things to try" most of the time, rather than bragging rights. Though yes I do sometimes fixate myself on the frustrating ones just to get them out of the way.

Steamcloud saves to the disk, from where it is synched into the cloud.
The synching is only done when the game is closed or started.

I played Ironman with Steam cloud, it took way more time to save. When I desactivated, the saves became way faster and made Ironman playable. Are you really sure the game does nothing different? Like for example, making a compression on the save file that will end up using more time?

You can make backup copy of your save every 3 months, every 6 month, every year or whatever. ALT+TAB, copy, paste, profit.

snip

Yes you can, but then why are you playing IronMan mode again? We thought it was to "achieve" something the other modes don't provide. ;)

Does not work.
Ironman games must go to the Steam Cloud. And it is protected agaisnt these kinds of modifications. All the server has to store is a single checksum per game and thus be able to detect such modification. Trivial data demands.
Not only it does work, you can do whatever you want with the saves. It works for nearly every game, not only Paradox games. That's the way Steam Cloud works. It doesn't check the validity of the saves - when the game shuts down it checks for new files in the cloud save directory and uploads them. Before starting another game it downloads files from the cloud.

I once started an ironman game in stellaris, but I didn't notice it used local saves instead of cloud and I wanted to play this game on a different computers. So, I just copied the save from the local save game directory to the cloud one and I could play it on another machine.

And I wish I backed up my save files for Fallout 4. I had to replay the last 15 hours of Survival game, because I didn't notice I was affected by a bug that lowered my Perception to -1...

In other words, Steam Cloud does not protect the saves from manipulation in any way. It's just a file sharing service, like Dropbox or Google Drive.

While this is all going on, can I just ask for the following:

A warning message/popup window that tells you that achievements are currently disabled due to any active mods whenever you start/load into an iron man game.
Happens quite often, that I start the game in order to play my ironman-save and still have mods enabled from a previous mp-game with my friends.
I agree that the Inforamtion policy is quite suboptimal. It is often nearly impossible to figure out if you can or can not get archeivements.

There are too many elitest in this thread.
If you are not an Elitist out for Archeivements, why are you playing Ironman in the first place?

Iron man has two properties for gameplay:
Disable cheat codes
Automatic Save every month/on game exit

If you just want no cheats: As they are 100% ingame scripts that make a check for Ironman mode, it should be possible to just make a mod that takes out the cheats.
If you only want a single (the latest) savegame: I could think up a programm for that too.
If you do not WANT ironman mode, there is no NEED for ironman mode.

So that leaves you using Ironman mode to get archeivements. The savegame restriction is intrinsic part of archeiving the Archeivements. You can not lessen it without devaluing all the archievements. And that is considered a dick move against anyone that already got them the hard way.

TL;DR;
General performance improovements will happen as the always do.
There is no need to play Ironman unless you want archievements.
If you do want archeivements, Ironman mode as it is now is integral part of the difficulty for each of them.

Not only it does work, you can do whatever you want with the saves. It works for nearly every game, not only Paradox games. That's the way Steam Cloud works. It doesn't check the validity of the saves - when the game shuts down it checks for new files in the cloud save directory and uploads them. I alredy noticed that and corrected the information I gave. I pride myself of always admitting mistakes.

I find at many points, once a month isn't enough, and I want to put the game down... But it's Ironman, you can't.

I don't have any lag saving. What kind of drives do people having that trouble have? I'm using an SSD.

(I never got the achievements, either.)

You get hit by a spoon every 10 seconds, it doesn't really hurt but is just a minor annoyance. This goes on for 10 minutes and you start to get annoyed. An hour and you get angry and try to find a way to stop the hitting. A day and you start to become frustrated as you can't find a way to stop it. A year and you become insane and quit life.

Reduce autosave intervals - save people from spoons.

The longer the intervall between autosaves on Ironman, the more cheat freedome you give to the player. It's not hard to quit the game without letting it save. Making it so you could essentially rewind a whole year removes the point of the Ironman Mode.

None of those were my points.

I was simply stating as to why others were annoyed since you and the other others didn't get why.
