So… about EU4, Ironman and playing ironman with other gameplay modes (difficulty slider, mods, lucky nations etc)…

Has PDS ever given a reason as to why they are so restricted with Ironman for EU4? I mean, with the recent introduction of Ironman for CK2, it is NOT limited to “normal/hard” difficult, and even in the next patch (which is currently in beta) they are enabling it so that you can play with mods (and the Ruler designer), but it disables Steam Achievements...

This level of feeedom I personally enjoy in my games...

- Now possible to play in Ironman mode with the ruler designer and mods (but you won't get achievements)
If they are able to do this for CK2, why can’t they do it for EU4, given that both games use the same game engine?

I've not seen the attraction of Ironman mode at all myself, but isn't it mostly just to make achievements non-cheatable? And since achievements turn off in CK II ironman with ,ods, why is it really needed to play ironman with mods in EU IV if it's turning off achievements? Couldn't you just stick to the ironman rules yourself with little to no effort?

I think you have this backwards. When Ironman came out there was outcry for the features you are asking. So they intentionally wrote CK2 that way since it was a new feature.

My guess, they probably can't get resource for these changes past management. Remember even if it is easy to code you have to test all these features then.

I am sure they can do it for EU4, I suppose the question should be "why are they unwilling to do it / so against doing it?"

This is a rather negative/pessimistic view.

They haven't added it to CK2 yet. It's in the next patch, not out yet.

This is actually great news. Now they've done it for CK2, I think there's every chance they'll do it for EU4 as well. No reason to think they're deliberately not doing it for EU4 at all; as of now, they haven't released it for anything.

My guess is that Ironman in CK2 has been prioritised because:
  1. They only just added Ironman to it - the code is 'fresh' for CK2
  2. CK2 has a paid-for DLC that is blocked by Ironman: ruler designer. So it's a priority to get that support for paid customers of that mod tool. And once it works for one mod tool, it would be silly not to extend it to all mods
  3. CK2 has far more mods than EU4, having been out a lot longer. There's a lot more demand for mods, because CK2 users have been used to using them for 2 years. Whereas many EU4 users started with the ability to play Ironman, which has stopped a lot of them from even trying mods. This will of course change as soon as EU4 Ironman+mods is possible, and that's a huge reason to do it.
I'm actually really excited now - I've wanted Ironman with mod support for a long time, and now it's in CK2, I think there's huge hope for EU4. Maybe even in Patch 1.4?

But if it has to wait until 1.5, that's fine with me!

I imagine that since CK2 added the core functionality to the engine, it could be in the game as early as 1.4.

The problem is that 1.4 is far enough away that nobody at Paradox is going to tell us whether it will be part of that patch, and since 1.4 is tied to the expansion, we won't see it before the expansion.

Your pants, keep them on.
