Probably not as frustrating as losing a game at around 1800, just before finishing three achievements. :p
That's a very good point.

Edit: but as a software developer, dealing with upset customers and bugs that you just can't track down can make me lose sleep and hairs for weeks. With a screwed up save, I'll rage for 10 minutes and move on.

We've unfortunately never been able to reliably reproduce this, but we think the Ironman refactoring in 1.14 will get rid of the problem.

If you click single player button on menu BEFORE checksum finishes on the main menu, then your local saves(or cloud saves) get de-ironmanned.

I think using a lot of graphic mods increases the delay for this checksum on the main menu.

Never EVER click single player mode button BEFORE multiplayer button button goes from grey to blue color. This prevents the bug.

The bug is still present in 1.13.1, and 1.13.2.

If you want, I can test if disabling my mods solves the delayed checksum on main menu.

besides, why is there a checksum on the main menu now? I think that was new since 1.10, and ever since then the problems started with this bug..

It happend to me aswell...I have game which is now DEIRONMANIZED just before i earned 1 million troops, Silk Road, Trade hegemon and MAYBE if i caould be fast even 1001 provinces...
Can someone from Paradox stuff answer if achievements will LOAD even if Ironman is turned off by this bug ? After i saw that save is DEironmanized i didn't "Launch" my save.....and i don't know what to do...Today i was playing on Mobile hotspot and i think this cause the issue, but i never got any message that my connection broke down, and i even pressed "Save" button manually just to be sure before quiting game...

EDIT: Funny part is that i see in Steam to most actuall MAP...Just Ironman broke up, and that explain why i didn't received Silk Road and Trade Hegemon already while playing :/

As bad as this bug is, I would enjoy the ability to deliberately change an iron-man save to a normal one.
Yeah there should be an option to de ironman a game. And your portrait looks like Ukraine's Petro Poroshenko, interesting.

Weird, the only times I´ve lost an ironman game is probably because I was impatient and the "calculating checksum" happens. I´ve believe I´ve narrowed it down to this, since at one time I was just about to load into a game when it hit me, the "ironman mode" was not checked, the one in the left corner. So my guess is, loading from there, even when you are able to hit the play button, it makes it a non-ironman game.

Since you force the load into a state where it´s not ironman and the game is ruined. If the check is not there, and not able to be checked restart the game and wait for the calulation to be done before hitting play. I´ve not had issues like this before and after this, I´ve never lost a game since and hopefully will keep not losing any.

This has happened mainly when my computer has been otherwise busy, like background programs interfering and making loading longer. For that reason I´ve also stopped most unnecessary programs which makes the game load up with the checksum and only a very few times with the calculation, at which I´ve simply wait for it to be over.

Folks, it's not just the checksum. I'm 100% certain of this because I lost an Ironman game even when the checksum was finished before I started playing. The Ironman box was checked, the button said that I could earn achievements, and I still lost Ironman status.

It's something to do with cloud saves.

are you kidding me dude? they set this ironman poodoo up and make us use it to get acheivements, yet they post hardly anything on the forums about this bug that completely destroys saves that people put hours upon hours into.

this has happened to three of my save games since common sense and its total swedepoopoo. im not even gonna play anymore until this garbage gets fixed because if i thought playing eu4 was a waste of my time before, finding that every achievement run i do disables ironman before i can even get to 1700, seems like an extra big waste of time.

these developers should take a break from swimming in their money pools and devote everything to fixing this bug. its not our raunching responsibility as players to figure out all kinds of work arounds to not destroy our saves. they should just fix game breaking bugs before they start working on horde mechanics or whatever this bundle of sticks expansion is focused on this time.

How is paying over $120 for a game and expecting it to work properly (this is a major bug for freaky sake!!) before i shell out another $20 a problem with you funboys?

I believe there are multiple dev posts stating that the issue, as reported, in not easily reproducible. Some suggestions have been made to employ local saves instead of cloud, and I even think there was a hint made that the situation might be rectified somewhat with 1.14.

Mind you, I had a save or two go plonk a year or so ago, so I feel ya, but I do feel for developers as well when they can't reproduce a bug with any consistency to be able to even begin to come up with a fix (what a sentence!). For me personally, switching to local saves and not clicking play before the UI loads completely, seems to have made a difference.

We cannot fix what we cannot reoroduce, and none of the suggested methods for reproducing have worked. Thus why we opted to fix it via reworking the system instead, I just can't promise 100% that the problem cannot happen again since we can't verify a fix without being able to reproduce the problem, but I'm almost entirely certain it will not happen in 1.14.
