It would defeat the point of Iron Man Mode if you could save scum. I only notice it when running the game on a computer that is very borderline in meeting the requisite specs.
When I play ironman I don't want the game to save *at all*. Just when I quit the game to do someone else. The only reason not to do this is if you're worried there will be a lot of CTD's. If that is a true concern (I haven't witnessed a single crash so far) have it save every 5 years or so, maybe every year even, but not every month, please.
I have a pretty decent system
Iron man mode saving every few seconds
My computer is 5 years old, no SSHD for me, and Stellaris autosaves quickly. So if your system is truly "decent" then you have some other problems with your hard-drive unrelated to Stellaris.
How much in-game time passes for you between auto-saving? Since auto-save is triggered by the passage of in game time, my guess is that you've cranked that to speed 5, which is a problem with Stellaris but not a technical one![]()
This is not a problem only faced by me, as you can see from the above posts. and no , there is nothing wrong with my HDD or computer or anything.
I play in normal or fast

Apologies, but this is extremely annoying to me! I run an i7 4770K, 16GBRam, on a Samsung M.2 SSD (800MiB/s by AS SSD Benchmark), and the save every month is plainly infuriatingly bothersome. I dare say that I'm not borderline in required specs! It would defeat the point of Iron Man Mode if you could save scum.
