It would defeat the point of Iron Man Mode if you could save scum. I only notice it when running the game on a computer that is very borderline in meeting the requisite specs.

I have a pretty decent system, and it auto saves every few seconds. Don't see how its related to system specs

It autosaves every month to prevent you from save scumming your way out of gnarly situations. What is the point of ironman if you can reload a save if an anomaly goes the wrong way?

I am playing in ironman mode too. Even if I understand the point of this auto-saving system, it is quite annoying to see a freeze in-game every months.
Playing in ironman mode shouldn't lower the user experience.
Having an auto save every 6 months should already reduce significantly the problem.

To answer to the latest post, what would be the point playing ironman if you already know that you will try to trick the save system? The current saving system seems to be made for avoiding player to do that, but why should the ironman mode should lower the experience of people who really want to play in ironman?

I've seen this topic come around a couple of times now and every time the discussion goes the wrong way.

It's not about people wanting to 'save scum'... I only play ironman, not just in paradox games but in every game where the option is available and the problem with this current system is the performance. In the late game it gets really really really tiresome to wait a couple of seconds for the autosave every single month. Apart from that the game runs quite decently on my end, but that saving...

When I play ironman I don't want the game to save *at all*. Just when I quit the game to do someone else. The only reason not to do this is if you're worried there will be a lot of CTD's. If that is a true concern (I haven't witnessed a single crash so far) have it save every 5 years or so, maybe every year even, but not every month, please.

In addition to this you could also add autosave to certain events.

Join / leave an alliance or federation, start / end a war, colonize a planet. Maybe also for anomalies.

This way you still prevent save scumming, but also remove the save freezes during times where you just want to speed up time.

I have Ironman is set to save monthly but I don't find it annoying.

I have a pretty decent system

My computer is 5 years old, no SSHD for me, and Stellaris autosaves quickly. So if your system is truly "decent" then you have some other problems with your hard-drive unrelated to Stellaris.

Iron man mode saving every few seconds

How much in-game time passes for you between auto-saving? Since auto-save is triggered by the passage of in game time, my guess is that you've cranked that to speed 5, which is a problem with Stellaris but not a technical one:D

I find ironman unenjoyable in EU IV, CK2 and Stellaris. Concept is good but man the implementation sucks and it's not about the hardware it's running on.

Yeah I run the games with 3x SSDs (Samsung 850 Pro for the OS and a RAID 0 of 2x 850 Evos for the game itself), still lags like crazy late game and it's already noticeable at the start.

Same for me. I run the game on a Samsung 850 EVO, an i5 3570k, 16GB DDR3, a GTX 970 and Ironman saves lag like hell during the late game. The game gets interrupted every few seconds at maximum speed.

The saving in stellaris is NOTHING like the saving in CK2. Theres no history files to save and the save game doesn't bloat at all. The OP is probably just using cloud saves with slow internet or something. The autosaves in this game are instantaneous. That was the first thing I cheered about when coming from eu4/ck2....ironman saves are instant.

I think there needs to be a differentiation between the monthly saves and the general slow down. The saves should last at most a few seconds every game month. The general slow down is in no way related to that. Watch the calendar in the top right, for me its between 2 and 8 days with an average of about 6 when it hits a wall in the late game.

Saves on the other hand still only take a second or two. Also seeing the age of the OP it could be related to the ironman save bug that was REALLY annoying that I believe was patched in the hotfix wave. in fact may 12.. yeah probably that.

Apologies, but this is extremely annoying to me! I run an i7 4770K, 16GBRam, on a Samsung M.2 SSD (800MiB/s by AS SSD Benchmark), and the save every month is plainly infuriatingly bothersome. I dare say that I'm not borderline in required specs!

I almost want to think theres something wrong with your computer if you are noticing ironman saves in stellaris. I have 2 systems that barely meet system requirements and the first thing I noticed with stellaris compared to ck2/eu4 was that the ironman saving process was almost nonexistant. The fact that you are highlighting an almost invisible thing in this title kinda makes no sense to me.
