Ironman Game Ruined by Vichy Event

Ahistorical focus. Hitler fails to break through the Benelux so I'm stuck (in my own faction) slogging through Southern France. While losing on the Western Front, Hitler declared war on the USSR

I break through and hook around the Atlantic coast to Bordeaux, Brittany, and I inch towards Normandie.

Despite French troops heading toward Berlin, France capitulates to Hitler instead of me. Whatever anyways because I had my lands in Northern France to prep for an invasion of England.

Then the Vichy Event fires and...

Hitler and Petain take it all.

a classical issue. let me tell you a worse one. Once i invaded half of France as republican spain, while germans pushing from north and taking Paris. when France capitulates the situation was fair enough for me, i took the territory occupied by me and germans rest. then suddenly that freaking vichy france event appeared and i lost all my communist south france territory to a fascist puppet.

i mean, vichy event and more generally the territory disrubution by capitulation should be fixed. otherwise its not worth to attack France as an axis member Italy.

This. So much.

Whenever I play as Italy, I don't bother attacking mainland France at all. Unless the border is weak enough that I can snag the (usually) stronger mountain forts. I stick enough mountain troops on the border to deter attacks and focus my attentions on Egypt, North Africa, and Gibraltar. While not a move that helps Italy's industry, it is strategic and allows the Mediterranean to be relatively safe. Yugoslavia is always my 2nd set of states I develop as the war goes on anyways.

I don't mind how capitulation gives out territory (again, usually) but scripted events need to consider and add:

A. What territory is being held by who. It makes no sense for a third party, in this case a separate faction, to lose controlled territory.
B. Give the player an option to "Refuse German Demands" when the Vichy event fires. Easy fix.

If you want France as Italy, you need to invade France as soon as Germany invades Poland. In my last Italy game I defeated France before the Germans stepped one foot into France, and I got all of it. You HAVE to take Paris to keep the French from surrendering to Germany.

Exact same happened to me yesterday. This game is a buggy mess if you deviate from the historical path
