Ironman Autosave Issue

All I can say at the moment is that we're aware that there is an issue for some people, in some cases, and that we are doing our best to find out what the issue is.


Unfortunately, we have so far been unable to find a reliable way to encounter the issue, which makes both debugging, and verifying any bugfixes on the matter, rather difficult.

I have a fix for the issue, its called adding a non cloud base, no achievement earning iron man mode. I don't play iron man mode for the chieves, i play it so i cant save scum or use console. Mount and blade and crusader kings 2 have an anti save scumming save option that is local, why not this game?

That's nice. Completely worthless for folks like me who are achievement whores unable to earn any due to the game constantly crashing on autosaves. This issue has been going on for a full month now, with no real fix in sight. I haven't even bothered to fire up EU4 in almost 3 weeks because of it, so hopefully they get something figured out to resolve the problem so that ALL users can make use of Ironman with achievements active.

How about the CK2-solution? Playing in Ironman-mode, savings local and still getting the achievements?

They should fix that to, but in the mean time there is no excuse to not have an local non chieve earning one.

I didn't mean to complain about CK2, I like how it works there. Maybe they could implement the same mode in EU4.

Are you guys doing any thing to fix this? Be it a way to stop the crash, or to make a option to save locally to avoid it? It is really starting to bug me. I cant even play an hour with out a few of them. Knowing that you guys are working on it at the very least would help ease some of my frustration.

I only reported it as a formal bug just a few days ago (that delay was probably my fault, sorry). It's been rated as quite a high priority, but no actual fix yet even in beta I'm afraid.

Just want to add that I've been having this problem since CoP as well. Never thought too much of it (I'm used to my Windows partition not behaving itself), but I did not notice until just now that I was never getting achievements because of it.

PS: Really love it when a great event (say, a stability boosting one) fires and causes this crash. Particularly with countries like Ming, which tend to have lots of little events due to the faction system.

im now getting a new feature, now sometimes during autosaves when it crashes, steam completely closes and i have to relaunch it too

I'll add my voice too, same issue with ironman autosaves freezing game anywhere from a few seconds (fresh game) to near a minute (a hundred years later). It got much worse in 1.5 than it was in 1.4. Back in 1.4 the unresponsiveness was annoying but didn't last more than 15-20 seconds, now it's almost a minute. It's darn annoying because of the increased frequency of auto save in ironman. At times I play on speed 5 and I'm actually waiting longer for the save to finish than I'm playing.

Local save does not cause this problem - the saves are pretty fast even for sprawling empires.

I may have a solution. Right click EU4 in steam library. Disable steam overlay for the game. For me, I'm not getting the crashes and also my autosaves seem 50% faster.

EDIT: It makes autosaves and seems to slow down the crashes, but after like 2 hours of straight play, crash :/

This is known to be necessary on Mac, but only for other reasons; are you on Mac, Windows or Linux?

I tried that too weeks ago. I had the idea as well crashes were less frequent. But it seems to be very variance heavy. Sometimes a lot of crashes, sometimes hours of gameplay with few long autosaves.
The truth is I hardly play anymore untill this is fixed.

Has anyone tried using beta versions? (Right click EU4, properties, under beta) They're old versions, but do they still crash?

Eu4 Ironmanmode is not in a playable state since Conquest of Paradise; in my games every autosave takes around 5minutes, steam disconnects me from the game every second save and i have to restart the game after every 3rd autosave.

Please Paradox, fit it. Make it like Crusader Kings 2, with an option to save your ironman games local and not only in the steamcloud.

I'm constantly getting this issue too. Its very frustrating. I have both the "My game is unresponsive for ~1-2 minutes every few autosaves" as well as the "My game is unresponsive for ~1-2 minutes until it crashed all of steam and eu4." Please fix this.

Same thing here. Tried a couple of reinstalls, tried changing steam autosync settings, it's year 1741 and my game crashes to desktop every 2-3 months when autosaving.

It's almost two months and simple problem like saving game isn't fixed. Not to mention (but I had to) OOS bug. So 7 months after game was released, due to technical problems, we still can't fully enjoy singleplayer or mutliplayer.
