Today I got an error while autosaving complaining about not enough disk size or bad characters in file name and after that error i got this:

I had the same thing as Arithon1989: It just worked again, except for a couple freezes every 3-5 years. But now the problem has reappeared today. Last night everything fine, now not anymore. Autosaves take again 10-45 seconds. I hate waiting longer than actually playing.
CK II is still ok. Autosaves never longer than 1 second. I just don't get it. I haven't changed anything, I play the same savegame as yesterday (a huge Savoy
) and still it reappeared.

just going to +1 this thread for visibility. 1000 hours into the game and I get this all the time. this is a Steam problem, not an eu4 problem. when the problem occurs you can click the screen and it will go white, meaning the program is "not responding" according to windows. and if you alt-tab to steam, steam's friend list (and any other steam window) is also white, meaning "not responding" either. is there any chance to make ironman -not- use steam cloud, as the cloud is extremely unreliable for some people? the game does continue on if you wait the 2-3 minutes for steam to respond but this happens very frequently, and I am frustrated to the brim trying to play ironman mode with this problem.
At the moment EU4 Ironman only saves to the cloud. CK2 Ironman however can save locally, so you'd think it was possible to implement that in EU4 too. There's a thread in the main EU4 forum asking for that very thing.
Now in my last playing-attempt EU4 and Steam closed completely after a 1-2 minutes-freeze. Again a freeze together with auto-save, but my steam didn't close completely before.
I have the exact same problem, I really hope this can be fixed, it is a really bad gamebreaker to have to restart the game every year ingame
Does anyone have this problem and has no CK2-Ironmansaves? Since I'm not very good at CK2 I'm thinking about deleting those saves to see if the problem only occurs, when IM-Saves of both games are in the cloud. I remember having no problems in EU4 before I started playing CK2 in IM-mode.
Is there any solution to this problem? Before expansion, saving on ironman would take less than a second, now it takes 5 seconds which is extremely annoying.

My ironman games are not saving anymore. Whenever I try to save or just EU4 tries an autosave, the game crashes. No error messages, just crashes and goes back to windows. It only happens on ironman mode, when I play a local game everything works Ok. Anyone with the same problem? Any solution?

This is very unprofessional from Paradox staff, completely ignoring this topic for days. It was fine before expansion, it's not fine anymore after the expansion, so obviously there is/are some bug(s) regarding this and yet no one wants to says anything regarding this. Ironman is practically broken and no one gives a damn. Kudos.
All I can say at the moment is that we're aware that there is an issue for some people, in some cases, and that we are doing our best to find out what the issue is.
Unfortunately, we have so far been unable to find a reliable way to encounter the issue, which makes both debugging, and verifying any bugfixes on the matter, rather difficult.

Hey ForzaA, thanks for letting us know you are looking at it. I am having the same exact problem. Playing as Denmark->Scandinavia. Incidentally I am watching Sweden vs Latvia as well in Sochi. Anyways, when I start the Ironman game, it loads quick, then
sometimes it will proceed through several years saving each month just fine. Then randomly, it will hang during the autosave and ctd. Other times, the very first autosave after the load does a ctd. Does not really seem to be a rhyme or reason. I am going to try a new/different autosave game and see what happens.

Thank you for the update. It's heartening to get some confirmation that the issue being looked at at least. I'll just keep my fingers crossed that the situation improves presently.
ForzaA - So playing my Muscovy game, Ironman, and I am not having this problem. I am having some long load times, but nothing egregious and no ctd. Not sure what is different about it except the game is not as advanced, in early 1500s not in 1700s. If I go to the Scandinavia game - issue persists.
Same issue here. Only now it no longer resumes the game, it now crashes to desktop without a message after freezing for minutes on "autosaving" during iron man... (this happens every now and then, after some years)

I just encountered this problem. I am playing a Native nation and now when it autosaves on Ironman mode it hangs and then all of Steam crashes. It hangs for so long I've had to go in and kill the program. I am nearly certain I am not losing Steam connectivity, and this doesn't seem to happen with regular save games, just Ironman autosaves.
Mine have bin getting pretty bad. The game crashes at least once a hour. Both it and steam freezes, after awhile they just close. It use to just freeze up few mins later its back up, now more often then not total crash. Even more fuel for the give us a non cloud saved, non achievement earning locally saved iron man mode. There is no legitimate excuse not to have one. When the mode is not working correctly, you need to provide us an alternative to use the features it offers.
