Heylo there, I am fairly new to the forums, and me and a friend have been working on a (hopefully) nice AAR. So far, we have the backstory - before the whole YOU GOT SPAAAAAAAACE thing. There are three player empires - the Iron Earth Imperium, the Dwarves of Armahk (forgive me for my misspelling) and finally, the ________ (were not entirely sure yet). This will be a timeline type AAR, however there will be short stories interspersed within this. Hope you enjoy! :)

Introduction

Disclaimer: As you already know, this is an alternate history. Almost all events in this timeline are fictional. Any resemblance to real events are coincidental. Some events remain true or are accelerated.

The timeline of this Earth diverged in 1875. In that year, a group of people used the technology of the time to create a bipedal weapons platform, which they called an “Iron”. They formed a company in Switzerland called “The Ironworks”.

Beginnings 1875-1885

After the founding of the Ironworks things were slow.

  • 1875: The Ironworks is founded. Few notice it, but the people of Switzerland now have a major industrial company.
  • 1876: Representatives of the US military came to the Ironworks’ HQ to see a presentation of the Generation One Irons. All were extremely impressed. Trade deals soon begin.
  • 1877: Other nations follow suit to the US’ decision. The Ironworks expands its factories to keep up with demand.
  • 1878: All major nations have Irons in their military.
  • 1879: The Ironworks starts building factories in its biggest client nations.
  • 1880: The Tzar of Russia stamps out communist revolutionaries, ending the threat to the throne.
  • 1881: Switzerland becomes a major power due to Ironworks HQ
  • 1882-85: The American Indian War is quickly resolved in a series of short armed conflicts in which American Irons totally obliterated the American Indians. Soon the Native Americans are an extinct remnant of the past.

Tensions Rise 1886-1899

  • 1886: The US figures out how to create its own Irons. This impresses the German Reich. Both go into a research deal and trade information.
  • 1887: Relationships between the US and the Reich improve. Austria-Hungary turns down German alliance because of its friendship with America.
  • 1888: The US, Germany, Great Britain, Switzerland, and Russia form the Iron Pact.
  • 1889: The Second French Revolution happens in a few days. Now, the fascist New French Empire joins with Austria-Hungary to form the Parisian Pact. Serbia and Japan join the Iron Pact.
  • 1890: The German Reich begins it’s first experimentation with truly large Irons, which it calls Wunderwaffes. They are also referred to as Juggernauts.
  • 1891: All European nations release their Asian colonies into nations with a similar government.
  • 1892: America adapts Irons for use in factories, farms, mines, and for a curious farming in the ocean.
  • 1893 - 1899: America undergoes a second industrial revolution involving Irons. Spreads partially to other nations such as Italy, Britain, France, Switzerland, and Russia. China quickly falls behind as an economic power, as they refuse to adapt to a changing economy. Shortly after the American West was colonized and exploited by workers using their Irons to exploit the natural far faster than previously thought possible.

The First Iron War 1900-1916

  • 1900: Italy splits into fascist Neo-Rome and democratic Republic of Italy. Neo-Rome joins the Parisian Pact, while the Republic of Italy joins the Iron Pact. The Ottomans join the Parisians as well. The German Chancellor is assassinated by Austria-Hungary. Both call their allies to war. On December 31st, 1900, the First Iron War begins.

  • 1901: Nations mobilize, and the Ironworks cuts of shipments to the Parisian Pact. US unable to send Irons, and compensates by sending a massive army. Canada ignores request for help from Great Britain.

  • 1902: Japan is taking enemy colonies in the Pacific. Great Britain fights the French on two fronts: Europe and Africa. Europe is a stalemate, and Africa is nearly liberated by the Iron Pact.

  • 1903: Africa is liberated, and the Parisian Pact has been forced out of the Pacific. South America remains as the sole outpost of the Parisian Pact. The Wright brothers build the Wright Flyer, which piques the interest of the Ironworks. They are brought to Switzerland, and with Ironworks funding and technology, they create the first Sky Iron: a new weapon in this war.
  • 1904: Flying Irons are mobilized in Europe, and break the stalemate.

  • 1905: The South American Colonies are under siege. Neo-Rome capitulates as Republican Irons flood into the capital. The Pope is discovered to be holed up in the Vatican, having survived a five-year long siege.

  • 1906: The South American Siege ends, after the Iron Pacts blockade and fire-bombing of fields via Sky Irons starves them into submission.

  • 1907: The factions reach another stalemate.

  • 1908 - 1909: Little changes on the front.

  • 1910: Stalemate is broken as the Ottomans surrender after the bombing of Istanbul.

  • 1911: Japanese troops and ships take Singapore and Taiwan, then start invasions on areas such as Korea, Philippines, and Australia, China is helpless to stop them. Takes most islands in the Atlantic. North Korea and South Korea capitulate under Japanese occupation.
  • 1912: Japan invades and occupies Mongolia through Russia and puts down a Korean rebellion, however does not invade China with it’s millions strong peasant legions.

  • 1913: Austria Hungary forms a defensive barrier known now as The Line. It stretched on all of Austria Hungary's borders.

  • 1914: In a heroic and bloody battle, Iron Pact forces of every nation storm a spot now known as Bone’s Break and break The Line, spilling in and blitzkrieging through Austria Hungary, a tactic Switzerland is now famous for.

  • 1915: Soon British and American forces invade France with Sky Irons, freed from the Ottoman front, forcing the French leaders to capitulate to the aerial bombardment, unable to defend themselves with their basic “fighter planes”.

  • 1916: After sixteen years of bloody fighting, all the nations of the Parisian Pact surrender to Iron Pact forces. The following slide will explain annexation, punishment, and consequences when the smoke clears.
First Iron War (Aftermath) 1917-1919

  • France was annexed by Switzerland, while in a treaty with Great Britain, America took Canada.
  • The rest of the Iron Pact turned a blind eye towards Japan’s indiscriminate annexations and occupation in its quest for resources.
  • Austria Hungary was annexed by the German Reich
  • Serbia annexed the Ottoman Empire and in a “surprising” show of support, Romania, Bulgaria, Montenegro, and Albania joined Serbia
  • In the fear of another repeat of such wholesale destruction occurring again, Norway, Sweden, and Denmark all joined into the Scandinavian Commonwealth
  • Portugal joined Spain
  • All the Parisian Pact colonies in South America and Africa were given democratic governments.
  • China kept its independence (nobody cared). Joined with Indo-China, Manchuria, and Mongolia, but still refused an Iron powered economy.
  • East Indies “join” Japan
  • Siam and Afghanistan join India
  • Persia and Arabia join and form the Middle Eastern Empire

Intervening Years 1919-1930

  • 1922: The competition, known as “The Iron Harvest” comes around. America wins with Germany in second and Japan in third.
  • 1923: Construction begins on the Ironworks HQ in Downtown New York City. It is called “The Iron Spire”, and plans are to make it over a mile tall. This will also act as a defense platform, armed to the teeth with artillery of all shapes and sizes. During the planning, they find eccentric genius Nikola Tesla. He quickly becomes the head scientist of their R&D department.
  • 1924: A Netherlands's inventor develops an extremely efficient air storage method and travels to America.

  • 1938: Invasion of India begins. The Iron Pact almost loses, until American Juggernauts, or Sea-Irons, march out of the ocean from a two-month long trek underneath the waves, expedited by the underwater technology development over the past century. In a week, India has capitulated. This increases morale on all fronts.
  • 1939: Russia tries to convince Mexico to invade America. Mexico declines.
  • 1940: China, with Japanese raiders on one side, and American Juggernauts on the other, capitulates.
  • 1941: Scandinavian and Swiss forces blitzkrieg once again through almost the entirety of Russia in two weeks, backed up by American Sea-Irons.

  • 1956: Tensions rise once again
  • 1957: Open conflict breaks out between the now first to second world African countries, as they now build their own Irons. Only America is able to continue the fight, and Sea-Irons are deployed to the coast
  • 1958: Soon American forces evacuate loyal Africans to America, where they help the Canadian expansion.
  • 1959: The Great African War was a decided victory for the Neo-Parisian forces.

Tech Race 1947-1970

  • 1947: Great Britain proposes a tactic to the US using their sky-navy air-dropping North America’s Irons. The US approves.

  • 2034: The first interstellar colony ship is designed.
  • 2035: Colony expedition to the Alpha Centauri system goes horribly wrong and effect has yet to be known. The hole they disappeared into was caused by a Voidtanium reaction to a rare exotic particle which opened a hole in dimensions. It warped space and time. Survey expedition to improve Alcubierre Drive safety continue. (Begin Dwarfs of Armahk).

And that's where we'll end it off, soon comes the (short) history of the Dwarves of Armahk, and hopefully after that _________ race will come up! Hope you enjoyed, thanks for reading!

Wow, you have really given this some thought. Looking forward to more!

Quite a bit of background work.

Interesting background. Subbed!

Quite a bit of background work.
It's funny you mention it, cuz me and my friend did not intend for this to be a stellaris run, but fate coincided and he got stellaris just a little bit ago. On another note, ______ empire will not be joining us.:(. Finally, I am glad for all the support, I was very doubtful as to the success of this. Thanks.

Ok then, so I had planned on waiting but was impatient, introducing the second player (me), the Dwarves of Armahk!

The Awakening 2021 - 2053 (Dwarfs of Armahk)

  • 2021: The Armahk, the central colony ship to an expedition sent to Alpha Centauri before the surveyors had completed their mission, and also a famed failure, lands on New Terra - the mental damage of being sent back in time and hundreds of thousands of light years away permanently damaged and wiped some colonists minds.
  • 2022: Language recovers, changed from Iron Standard. Religion cascades to a series of cults. In a period known as the Migration, peoples settle in all corners of the globe, and there is peace in isolation. Governments are varied, from total anarchy to a regimented military system, to cults who fanatically rule their corner of New Terra.
  • 2023: The higher gravity causes people to evolve into dwarves, accelerated by a exotic particle, called Evo, which corresponds to that found during the Transition, or the wormhole event.
  • 2024: The dwarves shelter themselves below the ground while the second sun, closest to them, erupts in solar flares. This evolves into a tradition, which cause most dwarven habitations to be below ground.
  • 2025: A large kingdom known as Armahk’s Bloody, has a new Archpriest (ruler title) who advances the philosophy of peace through elimination. It begins a period known as the Blood War.
  • 2026: The chemical Evo disappears, locking the dwarves in their present state. The Blood War rages on. Armahk’s Bloody is a religious cult worshipping Armahk, the god of Death, Destruction, War, Resolutions, and Happy Endings.

  • 2027: The Blood War comes to an end, Armahk’s Bloody having conquered all the dwarven kingdoms, in the aftermath, the Archpriest is ousted for cruelty, and a new Archpriest is elected, devoted to peace through isolation.

  • 2028: Underground caverns are explored and colonized, slowly the birth rates return to normal.

  • 2029: Expansion continues, an oligarchy of Archpriests is established so that the wholesale massacre of the Blood War will never be able to happen at the hands of one dwarf.

  • 2030: The first spaceship takes to the stars, and dwarven manufactories soon get space colonized. Due to the dwarfpower requirement of spaceships and stations, technology in AI’s progresses extremely quickly.

  • 2031 - 2035: A prototype Alcubierre Drive is invented, and Armahk’s Bloody complete a rapid solar system expansion.

  • 2036: The first Voidtanium substitute, a residue of Evo, is invented and space is ready to be conquered.

  • 2037-2053: Colonization of the solar system advances enough to justify interstellar travel. Remote operating of machines and factories or really anything becomes very widespread during this time, and communication techniques advance tremendously, along with the only weapon surviving the crash, the laser.
A bit short, I know, however this was a sort of add-on. Next, as I was a bit bored and my friend is rebuilding his computer after it died (minor setback), I will now introduce three short story writings which will be from the history part of this AAR.

1876 - Irons Military Presentation

As George Armstrong Custer walked into the large presentation hall, he marveled at the technological wonders the Ironworks had accomplished. On the far wall, a curtain of simple red velvet hid what was supposedly an Iron, what this advanced company was known for. As he looked around he could see a moving platform that rose to the military reps booth. He stepped on and was raised to an aerial view of the massive chamber. About three quarters of the room was roped off for use of the Iron demonstration. The rest was packed with representatives of major industrial companies. Slowly the conversations died down as numbers projected on the screen slowly counted down. The curtain pulled back and he felt his mouth drop as he saw the awesome power of this massive weapons platform. All that could be heard was a near-silent whisper. It was all angled edges and gleaming sheets of steel. The house sized walker ponderously moved one of it’s four legs forward, and with the cushioned crash of a rubbered circular foot pulled itself forward while moving another massive leg. Each motion of it’s quadruped legs shook the viewing platform, It was had four legs, angled in the four corners of a small square joint, leading up to the ovalular shape of the body, containing a small plexiglass window, out which three pilots gazed. On top two cannons, side by side, loomed ominously, mounted at the back and hanging over the rest of the machine. They were angled up slightly, and clearly could have their elevation changed. It was totally un-painted, steel sheets reflecting the massive lights now trained on it. Already the cannons were moving themselves down. Slowly, the massive monstrosity moved itself to the other end of the roped off area, it’s pilots coming eye-to-eye with George. The machine faced it’s dual cannons, swiveling on it’s hip-like joint in a surprisingly fast maneuver for so unwieldy of a beast, now facing towards the uncurtained area. There, four targets rested, placed about twenty feet apart. With four thunderous ka-kracks, Each target, a two story building, was pulverized into dust with two cataclysmic explosions of awe-inspiring power and with impeccable timing. With each thunderous report of the cannons, the balcony seemed to to jump off the wall. Luckily, the extra reinforcements held it in place. Slowly, with the dust settling, the crowds now silent, the platform ponderously made its way back behind the curtain, and the curtain whisked closed as it moved out of sight. A man in a suit, walking in front of a curtain which now had the Ironworks logo projected across it, simply said one word that seemed louder than the thunder of the tremendous guns in the deafening silence. “Buyers?”

1892-1899 Industrial Revolution

Texas: The tall golden wheat glistened in the morning sunlight, as Joe watched from his front porch. As he rocked back and forth on his chair, he considered the massive red painted machine which allowed him to harvest his immense fields. These new industrial Irons had allowed for farmers to plant, water, and harvest his crop in half the time on land triple the size, with just a three person crew. Mining and lumbering was almost as lucrative, and each of these Irons were powered by a highly refined and clean fuel, where a gallon of crude oil made a hundred barrels of fuel. California: Urist Mcsmith delicately maneuvered the drill arm, rotating at such a speed that it nearly vaporizes rock, and slowly destroyed the rock around the rich copper vein, as his brother, Urick Mcsmith broke up the copper and vacuumed it into the internal slag tank, where it was melted into a easily carried liquid and filtered over time as the scratched and dented Iron progresses, dumping the impure and the waste at stations designed to offload the mining machines. Urist wiped the sweat off his thick brow, and returned to his delicate work. Washington: Bob directed the cutting arm to the bottom, while another looped a cleaner over the top, and finally the third stabilizing arm came to rest the middle of the tree in it’s vise-like grip. Bob’s arm quickly severed the tree from the stump, and already the fourth stump remover arm was moving towards it, and the cleaner easily slid down the tree, cutting off branches and shaving off the bark. The bits flying off were collected by the cleaner arm and were put into the paper mixer, while the claw arm lifted the tree into the storage on it’s back, with it opening up just long enough to slot the tree and then closing in seconds. Slowly, the bright yellow logging Iron backed up and started walking through the trees on it’s eight pneumatic legs, shaking the ground with each mighty step. Florida: Slowly, Finn directed his Sea-Iron below the waves of the Atlantic Coast, his Iron sealing itself shut. He could only go under an hour, and it couldn’t be used as an amphibious war-machine, as it had all it’s space taken up by the machinery required to go under the ocean. Slowly his mech made its way to the rows of kelp and seaweed, glowing green in the sunlight from above the waves. His sister started cutting away at some of the long stalks and storing them inside the Iron, harvesting what their was today, as underwater crops were year round and as such were far more bountiful than surface crops. Already his family was wealthy by surface standards, and plans were being made to design the first totally independent underwater home, complete with a moon pool and an experimental fish farm, that could be hotter or colder than the exterior temperature.

1938 - D-Day

Richard ran. Explosions wracked the earth around him, erupting in craters of hellspawn and cataclysmic destruction. In return machines on three to eight legs lumbering towards the enemy, the guns thunder mixing in with the screams and moans of the dead and dying into a symphony of death and destruction. As he ran, his Iron Pact insignia almost burned off by shrapnel and heat, he noticed something curious coming from the ocean. Islands of steel rising from below the waves, rising towards the surface. Titans of armour and glass rose from the ocean, as if birthed by Nature herself. 10 feet, 20 feet, 30 feet, 60 feet, rising ever higher. Even as eruptions of tungsten and lead teared themselves apart on the armored surface of the Juggernauts, their three legs carried them forward, past the wrecked forms of their fallen brothers. With what seemed a single blast that seemed to shatter reality itself, deafening all, and making the world go white, these harbingers of rage and patriotism, streaked in red white and blue, the enemy Irons were wrecked in craters of fiery wrath, causing the world to crack once again. Again and again and again these abominations split the world asunder, crashing and burning through the pulverized forms of foes being crushed under the feet of these massive war machines. Slowly, as the dust and smoke cleared, the silence ringing with the remnants of the sounds of explosions, the titans advanced, their guns silent and smoking. Ears ringing, Richard found a Iron Pact flag, miraculously intact despite the fires of war raging around it. He picked it up, hoisted it on his shoulder, his shredded uniform offering no protection from the stray shots, and marched forward, joining the reforming ranks behind these angels of war.

And that's it for probably this week, hopefully next week we will have the first stellaris playthrough, empire setups, and general information.
