So much irrational fear of Steam, "clouds" (gasp!), and any other new things on this forum..

You'd almost think that a lot of these forum goers are close-minded old guys :D!

If you're worried about repeated uploads to the Steam cloud, don't be. Steam will synch your saved game with the cloud after you close the game, never during the game.

I'm worried about the CTD. from the experience of EU2.
Today I found the first CTD in fresh install of CK2. When I try to look the ethnic map.

If someone's that determined for a pixely badge to show they achieved something then they can do as they wish.
Personally I'm not a badge/achievement whore, but I'd really feel cheated if I accomplished something and could look at a list of achievements telling me that I didn't accomplish it.

The manual says that Ironman saves are always in the cloud. That also stops people from editing the saved game.

I don't see how? Even with Steam cloud you always keep a local copy of the save. And if you're not connected when you save, Steam uploads it later.

Otherwise that would mean you'd have to be connected to the internet and download/upload a 50MB file every time you want to continue/save your game.

Which is the way gaming in general is heading, just as a point (not that I think Paradox are going to enforce that on us any time soon)

WHEN they are saved, yes - You're pretty naive if you think the savegames can't be tampered with.

Am i the only one around here afraid that the game is gonna chrash ? It's a paradox game afterall.

I can't remember when I last had a CTD with a Paradox game. Both EU3, HOI3 and CK2 has run flawlessly for me, so I certainly don't share your fears.

Since EU3 saves have checksums, so unless you know how this checksum is generated, the game will know that you changed something.

And where is the data before it is put into a file and checksummed? The executable - And it isn't protected in the least. I am going to bet you, that a simple memory editor can do just about whatever it wants to.

Which returns to the point - Ironman mode is still a "gentleman's" system.

Of course it is, everything can be cracked. But if you are willing to put so much work into cheating, you may as well learn how to play the game...

No more so than the lock on your front door.

Personally I will have a much easier time breaking apart a savegame, than my front door lock - but to each his own. :)

Of course it is, everything can be cracked. But if you are willing to put so much work into cheating, you may as well learn how to play the game...

Agreed - But the topic of "How secure is it really?" came up. Just telling people that it isn't soundproof, and any savegame that is Ironman should still be scrutinized if added to one of the hall of fame threads. :)
