Iron Cross for Darkest Hour

I just realized that Iron Cross is compatible with Darkest Hour.
If you install Iron Cross over Darkest Hour, will you still be able to play the core game/mods? I only ask because for Arsenal of Democracy and HoI II, the answer was "No".

In DH, the answer is "Yes". IC is installed under the directory Mods, like DHFull, DHLight and DHCore, so you can switch between them (and any other mods you installed) with the DH launcher.

is it as SLOW as plain Iron Cross (specially in later game)
or as FAST as plain DH?

Well, there is nothing with HoI in its name close to DH when it comes down to engine speed , so all mods or expansions using DH engine as a base should benefit from that.

Not really. Minors without armies and in peace need very little processing power, so playing as such country doesn't reduce the load on the engine.

Speaking of engine performance there is still something more I can pull out of my hat for the next patch. I'm biased so I won't give precise numbers, but late game speed in games with thousands of units and countries at war is notably faster in my current test version compared to 1.01.1

Yay! Looking forward to see how fast it runs on my netbook in the future (it runs at the same speed as HoI2 did on my desktop)

Side note: Will you release a faster speed option? I'm 99.9% sure my desktop could handle one (it's at....15% cpu usage). Though my netbook won't benefit, but meh.

My suggestion often has been to put units out of your F.O.V. as counters, thus reducing strain on the engine.

You do have a quad core CPU, right? The engine supports only one core, but for the next version it will utilize that core's full potential (so in your example the CPU load will go to 25%).

4 core, 8 thread...there's some background stuff running. Would that limit it to 12.5% for the game? Hm...wonders if I can merge two threads. Probably not.

Kind of reminds me of HoI III, where, to make the game faster, they recommend setting the affinity to only one CPU, which is rather ironic.

Installing Iron Cross on DH, there are differences with an installation on Armageddon or AoD?
Several examples:
- The designs of the units. DH style, or Hoi II spartan style?
- The map of Hoi-II was quite different in the concentration of resources. Depends precisely on the map so that loading the IC module will have a different distribution?
- AI behavior (so tactics of the factions, units production, research etc..) and the dynamics of battles (greatly elongated), are inherited by DH, or are considered to be written specifically for IC?
- Again, time and cost of construction/updating, are those of DH or not?

AFAIK all of these will be set by IC to their needs. What you'll use from DH is its engine plus any DH features (like decisions) that IC team has implemented in IC version for DH.

I just bought iron cross from gamersgate. installed it on darkest hour but it doesnt seem to work!
There's iron cross shortcut icon on a desktop but once i try to launch it a window pops up with a message canntot find darkesthour.exe, once i locate it manually dh launches but theres no difference to the game ;-/ its like i haven't installed it properly or im doing sth wrong!

there is an information on gamersgate that u gotta have armagedon, aod or doomsday in order to play it but i read u can install it on dh as well and there was an option to install it on a dh so dunno what to do....

After you install IC in your Darkest Hour folder you then have to apply the IC patches.
