Started as Ulster, unified Ireland. English declared reconquest war for Meath (along with Portugal and Sweden for extra pain and suffering). 15 painful years later, finally had them revoke their core and give me some money. Trying to rebuild legitimacy lost due to constant 17+ war exhaustion, I made a royal marriage with France. Shortly thereafter (1449), I'm the senior partner in a personal union. Seriously?

Ireland Income: 166.6
France Income: 816.7

Irish Provinces: 5
French Provinces: 25 (excluding vassels and Castillian provinces they're occupying...yes, they're currently decimating Castille and it's only 1449...BBB anyone?)

Irish Manpower / Army Size: 7K / 9K
French Manpower / Army Size: 51K / 22K

Tired of pulling statistics, I think it's evident enough that France shockingly dwarfs Ireland in every category.

Typical me would be thrilled at this. Starting with EU1, I've played for years and countless thousands of hours. Wrapping up two weeks off work and a nearly non-stop EU3 marathon, it's finally dawned on me that I play every game the same way. Different flags, different starting intentions, always results in maximum expansion and quitting when I become hegemon. Hence my desire to play as nice, peaceful, isolated Ireland. Now I'm senior partner in a PU with France. How can I turn down every instinct screaming for another European conquest and just enjoy a peaceful life on the Emerald Isle?

To the EU4 team, one request: don't let Ireland become the senior partner in a PU with France. At least not in 1449 with no overseas provinces.

Well tbat should be easy, Since you are that much smaller, if you don't do anything the french will just keep sending insults untill the PU brakes. The fact a PU like this might emerge was plausible at the time, that local nobles would rally against it and try to press their own claim makes sense aswell :p. It will only last if you keep placating the French.

This. Outside of constant warfare, you won't hold that union.

You'd better be careful, your position is probably worse than it looks. I've seen Irish minors become senior in PUs with Burgundy before - those ended swiftly with the Burgundians taking the huge stab hit to annex their overlord. France isn't quite as evil as their eastern neighbour, but they may well opt for that solution if they consider you vulnerable anyway.

The PU came to an end. Could have kept it, too. France dropped a few insults and was barely negative at the king's death. Did declare war afterwards, inconclusive. Cyprus in 1401 definitely trumps my scenario.

I do doubt the plausibility. If he somehow had lineage / rightful claim to the throne, he'd have to fight his way in to take it against a local claimant. Easiest workaround I see is giving the player a decision whether to form the PU or give up their claim to the throne. Probably best to have it result in a Casus Belli, or at the very least a massive pretender revolt upon forming the union.

One issue here is that no one in their right mind would be King of Ireland over King of France. What would really happen is more like when the King of Navarra became King of France - France would be the main title, Navarra the secondary.
