i had some difficulty understanding the dynamics of personal unions, so i took the danish, then built a cog, send it to atlantic with the monarch loaded onto it. After some attrition and a fight with pirates, my monarch would be lost to davy jones' locker, so that i could see what happens with my personal unions upon succession. Unfortunately,as the ship was sinking, the guy was sitting on his throne in kobenhavn! So i declared war to the mecklenburg, sent an unsupported army of latin infantry leaded by my dear monarch, over and over again, until the last soldier gave his breath. But my dearest monarch was still alive!!!.
So, what the hell? And also can someone please inform me about personal unions and inheritance via them?

Sounds to me like he wants to keep the throne so much that he's willing to swim from the middle of the ocean back to his palace to stay alive. :)

Well, it's the same in HoI/Victoria, isn't it? Your "generals" can survive even if your entire army gets annihilated.
There's probably a small risk in every battle your general leads that he'll die, so it's probably more risky to let him lead a huge force in a great, longlasting battle than in one that lasts for 3 sec.. I guess... :)

I also tried to get rid of a worthless Richard III in a massive war against France. The king before him was quite good but died in his 4:th battle, I think. But Richard III lost battle after battle and his armies were several times killed to the last man, but Richard always survived.
But at the same time I have to praise Richard III despite that he lossed every battle, he managed to kill of two French kings with military talent 5! :D

I'm wondering, is there any prestige or stability gain from your King commanding and winning battles?

It's WAD. Sadly. This will be very easy to exploit, especially vis a vis explorers.

It would be easier to exploit the other way around. Just kill off any bad monarch you have. I like it the way it is.

But it's more risky to try to kill your own monarch, then you might be forced into a Personal Union or get a Regency Council.

I believe there is a chance of a your monarch dying when he loses a battle etc. You would have to ask the game designers why your monarch does not drown, maybe they found it too easy to exploit to get rid of your bad kings?

Well i would understand that this feature is intended to prevent exploitation, but in my experience, the guy doesn't simply die, regardless of how many times his army of 1000 guys are annihilated by 25k army of, say, French. I've tried it 25 times, along with 15 sunk cogs in shores of west africa.. I mean even if it is random, he should have died.

A regency council is even worse, nobody would want to do such exploit.

This thread explains the sad facts :(
