Having recently read a thread in the OT Forum about Black Swans in gaming, I came across a post by Stauffenberg that was an excellent idea:
We all know and love the Mongols, but what about adding in some other potential hordes? While technology and all that boring stuff limited what happened in our time line, wouldn't it be interesting and fun to have an invasion from the Americas or Africa? It wouldn't have to be a garunteed thing, but could add some unpredictability and mayhem to the game. What do you guys think?
So, what if, instead of the events bringing in the Mongols, there were possibilities of similar invasions from completely different directions? Maybe something from Africa, or maybe Native Americans with more advanced technology coming across the Atlantic (like 1492 in reverse)? And you would never know when starting the game when an invasion might happen, from what direction they would come, how many there would be, or if there even would be any at all. You could make it have a specific set of possible large-scale invasions that can happen, or you can just make it completely random. Of course, in retrospect, we know that there was no chance of an invasion from the other side of the Atlantic, but for the people living back then it would have been nearly the same thing. They weren't expecting the Mongols coming and taking over most of eastern Europe either.
