When I played as France I had a similar problem. I expanded the Maginot line, and held it. But although I had stopped the German Goliath there was no way to slay it, not unless I wanted to re-enact Verdun, and France could not possibly hope to win a war of attrition. So I threw a curve ball and invaded Sicily using the straits as a defensive line. The AI naturally tried to force the crossing but couldn't so it left a Huge stack of units there instead, which allowed the newly created French Marine Corps to land behind them and cut them off, , while the Armee d'Air logistic bombed them and they were rolled back into nothing. Thus the scales were tipped Italy was crippled and having to fight on two fronts and Germany lost two panzer divisions, and had to weaken the western front to try and save the Alpine and Italian fronts. All with very little cost to France... What I'm really looking for is a place or four where I can pull off a similar trick... force the US to commit its forces in several places and then tempt them in and then quickly encircle and destroy those forces, Like you said though Islands and such generous landing zones are in short supply, and it would mean that for the first time the RM would have to leave the safety of the extra Air cover from land based Sqns... I only play couple hours a week so any suggestions for hot spots would be welcome.
