Well, you did say that religious music was only sung by men :).

I did, and should have specified "in cathedrals and in monastic orders", since that is largely what Ensemble Organum focuses on. :)

I was playing EU2 last night for the first time in at least a year, and was reminded about how much I didn't really care for the 15th century tunes as compared to the later centuries...

If that is your only exposer to medieval music, should go out an buy a CD right now, before you mistakenly criticize one of the more interesting periods of artistic development out of ignorance. I recommend "Music of the Crusades" by The Early Music Consort of London, You should be able to find that at most book stores, and it's appropriate.

I've heard some medeival music, I even have a couple of CDs. It's interesting once in a while to listen to. But I stand by my statement that music from the Baroque era and later is simply better.

I love the logical harmonious precision of the Baroque period too. But frankly, it's comparing apples and oranges. The poetry and philosophy of good medieval polyphony is unsurpassed by any latter period. The motet is not just music for the sake of music, the best examples, with the competition of theme, both harmoniously and philosophically between the quadruplum, triplum, and duplum; are intellectually stimulating on a level unlike all other music. It's hard to appreciate the artful and subtle polyphonic and polytextual music without a good understanding of the medieval art of rhetoric :).

any news about the intro?

Come to think of something... This isn't the music itself, but on this site the intro movie can be found, if you haven't seen it. I don't remember what kind of music it contains though. :eek:o
