Sure, but that would be a boring experience (at least for my taste ;) )

If you win as the Allies should you be able to get the events that starts WW2?

+1

but when Germany wins WW1, things will go crazy. There is a solution: a Kaiserreich expansion (of very huge mod) wich will go from 1914 to 1964, but with a central victory, instead of an entente one.

The purpose of DH is to play WW1 and WW2 scenarios

Well at least can we have some time past 1919 so that we can see the fruits of our labors? (or the chaos, muhahaha) Plus important things happened/could have happened past WW1, like the prediction (that didn't come true obviously) that the U.S. would elect a socialist president in 1920, the attempt to start a global communist revolution, the big mess in China, and the rise of fascism.

We replied to that many times already.

Start and end dates of scenarios in DH can be freely changed in the scenario file itself (you can set 1914 scenario end date to 2500 if you want to). On top of that there is an option that allows player to override scenario end date and set scenario length to 4,8,12,...,20,24,28 years.

Our team is working on fixed date scenarios (events, AI, balance). We intend to add more scenarios via patches later but there are no plans for grand 191X - 1964 scenario... Well there is at least one mod that aims in such scenario ;)

but if the ww1 scenarios end in 1918...couldnt tht cut the war short?

i mean, lets say instead of launching a massive counterattack in spring 1918 they instead used their eastern reserves to bolster their defenses against the americans, planning a grand 1919 counterattack (kinda like in kaiserreich)

The main issue with getting any HoI game to have events that fire after so many years is how the previous years and events have gone. The Kaiserreich mod for example has so few events after about 1941-2 because of the whole war thing. Though we've developed a work around...

I must admit, I'd love a scenario where the USSA appears and the USSR never forms. Rather like the book 'Back in the USSA'... (the idea of Kurt Vonnegut as General Secretary telling everyone to 'relax' and 'chill out' instead of glasnost/perestroika makes me laugh my ass off.)

But surely if the game encompasses the Cold War period, then it's possible to play a sensible game at least from 1936 to 1963? The game should be playable beyond the end of WWII. Otherwise, what's the purpose of 1963 end date and all new CW stuff? What's the point of more dynamic handling of post-war scenarios (dynamic puppets) etc.?

I wouldn't worry too much. The only real issues are the ability of the modders and developers to consider the potential scenarios in terms of likely importance and chance of occuring. (EG, What if? Soviet Union defeated Germany and then conquered mainland Europe because D-Day failed?, What if Germany forced the Soviet Union to a bitter Peace, then enacted a devastating Sealion? What if Germany won WWI and then was wiped out by a Syndicalist France? So many options ;) )

This is the road to nowhere. The system must be dynamic enough to guarantee a playable post-war period. Otherwise, we have not moved from times of HOI2 Vanilla at all and the game will be playable only up to end of war. In such case 1963 end-date and implementation of Cold War period would be simple propaganda tools that make the game look bigger, better and more advanced on paper while it's simply not the case.

then not focus on the 1949 scenario :p

war is more likely to happen in the interbellum then right after ww2.

Having offered my services to the mod team and it being my personal area of expertise (read, I am going to university to study contemporary military and international history next september (my 2nd go at the bloody system ;))) as well as having worked on the 1964 AoD Mod (Shameless plug) and the Kaiserreich Modding Crew (More Shameless Plugs) I would personally refuse to write off the 1949 scenario just yet :D:D:D

And that is all good and well, but whilst making the scenarios interesting, the availablity of a post-war scenario engenders a certain expectation in the userbase that events are going to be interesting/full-bodied and althistoricalicious. I can think of at least 5 major post-49 historical turning points and I'm sure there are plenty more interesting events that a mainstream TL scenario is required to cover. Never mind an althist scenario (anyone read Resurrection Day by Brendon DuBois? It covers a post Cuba US where Kennedy bombed the USSR back to the stone age, if a little clumsily)
