Well some stuff I have noticed about the beta,

1)It is quite unstable, hence I have played a lot with the start of the campagin and know what I am talking about :D

2) Cordoba stand there like it is an old, corrupt Islamic state and makes no move whatsoever towards the remaining christian powers. Given that in 1430ish it gets hit with a series of long RR events it really needs to have at least declared war and got the "What sort of war" event by then or it will not be in much of a position to conquer Iberia before 1520 when the colonising starts. Maybe it should have at least one core on one of the iberian principalities

3) The Caliphates events seem remarkably nice, this one in particular struck me as incredibly generous

Free troops and +2 stability and easy diplo-vassalisations of the turkish states.

4) Wales is always lost to Scotland, their is no way Ireland can defend it, and I am not sure if this is what you had in mind when doing it, as it deprives Ireland of 1/4 of it's income compared to the Aberration 1

Dr. Bob,

Thanks awfully for your playtesting. Your comments can only help to build a better beta5. Keep them coming. Here are some reponses to your four points.

1) I cannot help at this stage with the bugginess you experience. I have note personally encountered this. Now, I'm no programmer, I am a storyteller who has become somewhat proficient with the text editing system they have for building new scenarios. However, others may be better able to assist. But they will need to know more about what was happening when you encountered your crashes. Be as detailed as possible. I suspect the province.csv is going to be the culprit.

2. Cordoba not attacking is certainly weird. They have the Iberian states as their targets in their ai and we actually have not done anything with their file from 1.07. The cores might help with war but there is actually no hard evidence that it does. The problem with them having the cores is they don't deserve them and it lessens their BB.

Others have made the comment on their RR. It is partly balanced by all the good events they get later, but once we get around to looking at Cordoba, we would have to think seriously about kessening the RR somewhat.

3. Ah, right, that event. It's partly a cut and paste error. There ought to be a cost for those troops. That said, it's a pretty mild event compared to the kinds of goodies events some files have. Check out Brittany and Ukraine and the Michaeil Doukas events. Well, they'll get toned down too, of course, Brittany's completely scrapped. But I digress... I will correct the error in that event.

However, the event relations boosts are appropriate. Those countries are under attack from Byzantium (that's the trigger) and the Caliphate is responding to save them. In this light +100 is probably mild.

4. I will leave Incompetant to comment on the Wales issue. It might be something he intends, part of the storyline. Other than that, Eire is designed as a coloniser, not a land-base country, so defending a province across a sea is always going to be difficult for it. However, it's also because I have written new ais for Scotland but not for Eire, so one fights better than the other at this stage.

AberrationIIbeta4b released!

Beta4b has been uploaded

here

This beta could have been beta5, perhaps, but Incompetant and I felt that the changes were mostly to majors that were already dealt with in beta4, rather than majors we had not previously looked at.

That said, there is a lot of work that has been done here, its just that much of it is 'housekeeping'. Finesse-ing of events, renumbering of the events, new ais and testing, testing testing. That said, there is a lot of new material for the Abassid Caliphate and the Order of the Scimitar, and some good new stuff for Hansa and Kingdom of Jerusalem. Here is abreakdown by area.

Hansa
- Reworded the Sund events to allow for more deals, variety and to really give the Hansa a reason to want to end the Sund Due.
- Events renumbered
- Completed the pioneer events
- Added seven new ai files, plus ai events

Kingdom of Jerusalem
- Completed renumbering of events
- Removal of 'a new crusade?' event
- Removal of events for inheriting Syria (JER now starts with Syrian provinces)
- Events for Jerusalem becoming Cyprus now have the correct countryculture changes and core loss
- A bunch of new events at the end of the file, concerning (in order) the expansion of Levantine culture, a possible Egyptian crusade, and the expansion of Arabic culture at the cost of Levantine (if Jerusalem is conquered by the Muslims).

Abbassid Caliphate
- Tons of new events and both the 'normal' and 'enlightened' paths.
- Completed the as files
- Completed the renumbering and reorganisation of the Caliphate events (all event files should be this well organised)
- Completed the pioneer events
PLAY THIS COUNTRY - IT'S GREAT

Order of the Scimitar
- Lots of new events, and a new way for the Order to emerge, plus its collapse
- ai files complete

Scotland
- Tweaked existing events
- Completed ai events
- Completed pioneer events

Eire
- Rebuilt the early year events
- Rebuilt the explorers for Eire
- Completed Eire's ai files
- Completed the pioneer events

Hungary
- 'Istria Slavonised' no longer makes Istria Orthodox, as the local Slavic groups are the overwhelmingly Catholic Croats and Slovenes.

Random Events
- Added several of the suggested new events from EEP and that of Therlun
- Reorganised and renumbered the file. There is now only randomevent.txt, and no more_random_events.txt
- Nerfed several values etc etc

beta4b does NOT include the Mutazelite events. Sorry, Calipah, its the next project, promise!

All of these nations should now be considered 'complete' in terms of being ready for the Aberration II 1.0 Anyone who is working on material ought now to be moving on to other work. :)

some bugs :
-a mutzatelite province at the beginning in timurid empire (Zahedan)
-tuareg culture for scotland, and tuareg provinces in scotland
-many CTD in 1450-1451, impossible to continue playing
-henry the navigator is too short-lived to discover anything, even the azores
-luxembourgh culture is french whereas its province is german

Imrryran,

Excellent, thanks a lot.

Missed the Shiite province in Persia. I'll redo that.

The tuereg thing is weird. Tuareg should read "Norweigian" but there should not be any Norweigian cultures in Scotland. I'll correct that.

The problem with Henry is that he lives longer he can discover the New World. The intention is that he can discover sea zones, and that his mantle is taken up by his protege Kabhan O'Tuathaith. I'll retest Henry to see if a few extra days will poermit him to find the Azores.

Thanks on the Luxembourg thing, although I'll check with Incompetant, maybe that was intentional.

As for the continual crashing, did you notice which events were firing at that time, as that will be the key.

Concerning the azores, is there a command which permit to discover a province ? Maybe an event could use it to discover the islands when the surrounding seazone is explored. A conquistador could also permit to explore the azores. If he is as short-lived as Henry is he will not be able to discover much more.

I have been totally unable to play after 1450/1451, no idea which event cause it.

OK, I guess I was tired ...

The only problem with Tuareg is that we had not altered the name in the text.csv so that it reads SCOTTISH instead of tuareg. So the provinces and the country culture are just fine.

Here is my workplan for the next little while.

1. Make the changes to the existing file, as found by Imrryran, including possibly extending the life of Henry etc. Some of the problems I have changed already, including a few I have found in Cordoba, now that I am playing it for the first time.

2. Find the CTD and correct it. Thanks to you, Imrryran, this will be a lot easier. It will be useful to also play Cordoba to the same point and compare the issues.

3. Add the Mutazelite events and create those for Egypt and its civil war, adding also the pioneer and ai files for Cordoba, then upload again.

4. Move on to France.

Also, in regards a command for discovering a province, sadly no such command exists. There is a Grand Request Thread for Joahn's attention and it's in there on the big wish list. Not as high as a Peace command, but probably an easier one for him to code in. I think we will have to wait for EUIII.

Imrryran,

I have found and solved the CTD. It happened as a result of the Inheritance of Normandie. Because of the errrors in the game set-up, there was multiple ownership of a couple of province and three versions of the city Canterbury (Normandy had it twice in its set-up). So, when the inheritance occured, suddenly Brittany owned three cities in province 248 called Canterbury and it crashes.

I have made the changes to the .inc files, and have finalled added Wessex (PRU) which had not been added since waaaaaaay back months ago. How did Incompetant and I miss that one????

I have altered Henry the Navigator. He now lasts a SHORTER length of time. Yes, you read that correctly. As it stood he could make it still to Newfoundland. He now last long enough to discover the coast of Greenland. However, I have also now included with him a conquistador Luis da Coimbra. He sails with Henry and can ensure the discovery of the Azores OR Greenland

I also found a bunch of errors in the Eire and Hansa files, and modified again the triggering for the Sund events, so it was a good exercise from many perspectives.

I have been pleased to see that the ai for Scotland is working well. They do seem to be able mount a successful campaign against Kalmar to defend Norway. I just can't get them to target the Norweigian province that are being attacked by Kalmar, but there are no settings in the limited ai editor that allow me to help with this. :(

So, now I am moving on to the Mutazelite events. Hopefully I will upload the happier, richer version of beta4b tomorrow.

Thanks again, Imrryran.

Before you upload it, give me a chance to send the editted Abbasid events, I found a couple of mistakes like the cot which appears in Birjand rather than Khorasan, alot of events dont fire, I fixed them and now everything fires correctly, changed the descriptions in some events and added two random events for the Caliphate, I will send them tonight :)

Thanks. It sounds like the same CTD as above, caused by the Brittany Inheritance. It's been solved and the next upload will fix it.

I find something strange in the vinland file :

command = { type = provincereligion which = 120 value = inuit }

I didn't know there was an inuit religion.

Thanks,

That should be provinceculture = inuit (which in-game is Norweigian).

Just waiting on that file from Calipah so I can upload the corrected and improved beta4b :)
