Here's a few interface or sorting options I'd like to see implemented in a future patch or expansion. If you like the ideas, I'll add them to the Expansion - Definitive List thread.

Character Screen

  • Being able to view a full-screen family tree. Keep the current "one brach at a time" format, but I'd like the option to view the full tree. Sometimes, I appoint my own family members to high positions and I like to know what relation they are to my ruler. It's easy to get "lost" in the family trees if you have a) a large family, b) a family that all look similar or c) family members with identical names. Being able to view the whole tree at a glance would be a nice bonus.

  • Have a few extra columns in the Character Screen so that I can sort my characters by age, wealth and Family Prestige. This is possible using the ledger, but not on the Character Screen. It'd be handy when appointing governor, magistrate or minister positions to see what class of citizen you're recruiting. Not essential, but handy.

Provinces and Trade

  • Display the Religious Prestige value on the Province Info panel. Everything else is listed apart from this. It'd be handy to know where your faith is highest, especially when trading Spices.

  • Talking of trade... When "applying" for a trade route, when all available routes are listed in the trade window, maybe it could be possible to sort them by province Civilization level. I often use trade to get civilation levels up in colonies or low civ provinces. It'd be nice to not have to look at the list and then click around to find the highest civ value.

Ledger

  • In the ledger, when I'm on the construction page, I'd like a couple of extra columns, so that I can sort provinces by Research Points and Civilization Value. This way I can put priority on different provinces (e.g. when building an Academy), without having to flick between ledger pages.

None of these are essential, but it'd make the game slicker and would be handy for those of us that enjoy the roleplaying element, fine-tune our empires or need the info for an AAR.

When you use the quick diplo options that appear in the province view, you should be able to change the default envoy. <--- That's pretty important methinks. :)

Cultural-specific gfx should be added to military icons.

Chance of success should be shown in Tempt Governor intrigue mission, just like in all other missions.

About Trade:

It should be a lot easier to rearrange your trade routes, as it stands now (unless I'm missing something glaringly obvious) you have to cancel (most) of your trade routes through the economy tab and then manually assign them again. This is rsi-inducing, to say the least. And Jupiter forbid you make a mistake, start all over again.

You know, I've been thinking about this subject lately, specifically in the area of managing republics. Since I generally play as Rome, I end up conquering large tracts of land and I have loads and loads of characters. Managing a republic like that just seems way more work than it should be.

Why do I have to specifically give every joker who "wants a title" a job? They're supposed to stand for election to posts as aediles and quaestors. I'd be quite content to delegate that entire process to the AI, so long as it handled it in a sane manner (as it does with the election of consuls). That would obviate the need for constantly trolling through the character list for no reason other than to placate the malcontents. The only offices I'm really interested in controlling are the five major research positions and the censors (although maybe there should be an option to make that AI-controlled too).

When I'm selecting a candidate to fill major offices, I'd also like a more sophisticated filter for characters. Instead of simply giving me a list of every character who is technically eligible, let me pare it down to those who a) want a job but don't have one, b) have a third party lobbying for them to get a job, and c) have the ambition to gain the specific office in question.

Also, I'd like the option to designate one specific date (as election day) and have the game pause automatically every time it rolls around. So if I set the pause date to January 1st, the game pauses every time it hits January 1st.

On a similar note, I'd greatly appreciate an option to NOT have all government / governor / tech positions filled by the AI when I start a new game! I have to wait for a year, fire them all (with a loyalty hit) and reorganise to my liking. I'm a perfectionist when it comes to playing Rome and I want to fill positions how I wish from day 1.

Oh yes, that would make me a happy Roman.

I can see it now: the Senate window would have the portrait of the current holder for each position, with portraits of the main contenders for the next elections next to them (much like the current Consular election system). You, as the senior consul, can provide your support for certain candidates at the risk of becoming the political enemy of their rivals - or losing friends if you fail to provide them support. Laws could be passed expanding (or reducing) the number or power of positions, with all the consequences that follow.

Monarchies could have a similar set of positions, though the characters would be chosen by the player. It wouldn't be much different to the current system, but with the same sort of political rivalry.

And the ability to have a co-regency would be awesome. Rome and Carthage both had a form of co-regency, and Roman Emperors often named their successor a co-ruler; Sparta was famed for having two kings at any given time; the Seleucids and Ptolemies frequently named their successors as co-rulers in order to prevent power struggles, or named multiple sons as successors (to rule co-dependently) for the same reason; etc.

Yes, this would make me a very happy Roman.

A Technology page in the ledger. Current modifiers page is not enough and doesn't give clear information about invention progress.

It should show your level in all development areas, and allow you to browse each area's available inventions at your current level, so that you can see those you have already developed and those you still haven't but are in position to acquire. Tooltips should siplay descriptions and effects of each invention.

Move the recruit army / navy buttons to a more logical place. First time I picked up the game it took me over an hour to find them.

Somewhere to see what technology advances you have.
