I'm currently playing a game as France (my Granada vas victorious! Yeeha!) and it appears that the events take into account the possibility that the French own the Netherlands instead of the Spaniards :) One interesting point however that caused the events to behave strangely is that I released the Netherlands as vassals pretty quickly (though the damn dutch took Flanders and the CoT there, which i did not expect!)

All around that was interesting.

Had you ridden them out you would have recieved dutch culture :D

I wish there were similar events for various European cultures as well. It's great fun to carefully move into Italy as France for example (or any French minor for that matter...) but gaining Italian culture after a series of events at the very end would be extra neat :)

But there's no historical justification for France gaining Dutch culture, or England gaining Italian culture.

The Dutch events are just there as a "reward" for actually fighting through all those revolts.

Just play as Savoy instead. French and Italian.

Or Lorraine, French and German.

Or for a real treat, start as Burgundy, release Flanders and play as them, taking Ile the France before 1515, then you get the option of playing France without French culture :D

I've played as Savoy quite a few times, both SP and MP (got two like-minded friends who love to play minors in MP games. HRE area is especially lots of fun) But unless you're a WC-type of player, ruling over France -and- Italy as Savoy is a lil unlikely.

Navarre is very nice as well, Basque, Iberian and French culture :)

As for WC being too easy with the said events...well I've never attempted it...ever, so I wouldn't know ;) I like sticking to historically plausible outcomes.

What I had in mind was different from gaining a culture when you conquer the entirety of a particular region. I was rather suggesting a chain of events that would let you adopt your new subjects' culture as one of your own---or perhaps even create a new culture! (one historic example would be the Ottoman culture which was Turkic, Persian and Greek...even the language used by the elite is called Ottoman Turkish as it's unlike any Turkic tongue spoken till & since then)

Basque isn't the most important culture in the game though. :D

Ok, pretend it was French and Iberian with 8-8-8 king or French, Iberian and Dutch, then(with Napoleon). With the added benefit that your completed colonies and converted pagans are less popular with other nations. :p

I tend to vassalize rather than annex people I'v enoticed.

When i played as Granada I had 10 or so vassals AT LEAST.

Spain, Sardinia, Sicily, Papal States, Siena, Tuscany, Algeria, Marocco, Mysore, Tunisia, Tripoli, Brazil, Kingdom of Jerusalem....

I played as France, England, and Burgundy. Each time, I conquered all the Dutch provinces before the Reformation came. But I didn't even bother to fight the rebellions.
1/I released the Neteherlands just when the revolts began (never mind Flanders)
2/I kept relations high with them all the time (Not so expensive, since they're not that big)
3/when the Edict of Tolerance came, I just had to wait a few years until the Dutch get a monarch with crappy diplo stats.
4/Since they'd been a vassal for approx. 100 years, voilà, automatic diplo-annex, with colonies and all :D
You can also gain Dutch culture that way, right after you've diploannexed. Don't wait for too long, though.

Do you get dutch culture that way? AFAIK you have to reannex them before the edict of tolerance to get their culture as well.

I don't know though, maybe the dates are set so that if you are lucky you could diplo-annex them in time for the repatriation event.

I'll have to check when I get home I guess.. :)
