Hey-

I've been playing EU2 for many months now, and I feel kinda like I need to switch things up. I've played big nations, small nations, middle tier, eastern and western; and I'm looking for a really different country that'll give me a good, unique, and potentially exciting experience.
Suggestions?

I've currently started a 1419 game in AGCEEP as Naples, and it is very enjoyable in my opinion :). Lots of stabhitting events and other irritating ones that make you a vassal of other countries. Some leaders, lots of possibilities of expansion - though this one has to be quite slow, due to your weakness compared to, say, Aragon (who owns 3 of your core provinces).

Also very interesting is Lithuania - don't know if you've tried her already... I've always wanted to try and form Russia as Lithuania (which both AGCEEP and MyMap make possible!), but never found the nerve/time/etc. for that :).

In addition to Naples, several of the Italian nations are fun to play. If you're using ACGEEP, try to form the Kingdom of Italy with e.g. Milan. I have had many fun games with Italy, trying to get as many provinces around the Mediterranean Sea as possible.

Other fun nations are those with multiple cultures. For example Lorraine, Pomerania, Savoy and so on. It's possible to get large empires with these minors if you play your cards correctly.

If you want a challenge, try to capture all of Iberia as Granada, or form Russia as Tver, Pskov or Ryazan.

- from the majors the most exciting are the ottomans: Lots of wars, and later it becomes a challenge too.
- Mameluks (strong but declines quickly, ottomans and religion are the problems)
- Safavid persia (shiite in the sunni ocean)
- Ak Koyunlu (neighbour of the ottos)
- Kara Koyunlu (bad neighbours: Timurids)
- Timurid empire (gangbanged early...)
- Mughal empire (lots of potential)
- Orissa (bad neighbours: China, Mughals, religon)
- Bengal (as Orissa)
- Livonian order (between Poland, Lithuania, Russia, Denmark and Sweden...)
- Teutonic order (same as Livonia)
- Kingdom of Jeruzhalem (religious problems, forming the country from Knights)
- Granada (re-establish Al-Andalus!)
- Ethiopea (orhodox with sunni neighbours!)

Delhi is my favorite "out there" nation to play as. Their map color is cool plus you already have Delhi which should be the capital of a contiguous Indian Empire.

As i've said before on threads similar to this:

The Knights are a fun nation. They have french and italian culture (yet none of their provinces are such) and can gain maltese and greek also. They work well as mediterranean vikings :D

I had great fun as Genoa in my latest game. Two COTs and high trade tech. when you start up, but the challenge is to keep the Ottomans from taking Constantinople, blocking off your lucrative Black Sea-trade. Then there is Venice, your archenemy, and the three majors who want your land: Austria, France and Spain.

- More -

Mameluks - If you are creative, it can be fun and better if you convert to Sunni
Chagtai Khante - Not very interesting vanillawise but fun to invade your neighbors
Prussia - Rampage Eastward and build the Germany of 1871 ->
Brittany - Can be fun if you quickly annex Orleans, and capture Maine from Provence.

Ahem - AUSTRIA, especially in AGCEEP is one exciting nation to play. Even when you think you lose you will still be able to win.

Lost a war? The next inheritance of say Styria will make that up.
Lost another war? Bah - we inherit Tyrol.
You´re losing again? Then get Bohemia.

If you think you get Burgundy - nananana! No, the spanish relatives take that :( and if they are gone you have to fight the whole of Europe for your legal heritage...

The nasty Hungarians are not really pleased to be part of our empire but their rebellions are no big deal compared to that of China or the Dutch.

And if you think you have inherited a fine large empire the turkish hordes will knock on the front gates of Vienna...

And ConjurerDragon's post is a great way to prove that an Austrian game is boring. Because you virtually can't lose (unless you really, really suck at playing EU2 ;)).

If you like World Conquest Venice is quite fun. They have serious potential. :)

Honestly though, EU2 no matter what nation I play can be boring. After playing MP and experiencing the diplomacy and the challenge of other human players, single player really pales in comparison. If you really want to spice up the game, play with other human players, preferably 8-9 reliable, decent human players. It completely changed the game experience for me by adding so much more diplomacy, politics, long term strategy and so on. In fact, I'm not sure if this is against the rules, but there is some players needed for an MP game on Thursdays at 5:00 pm EST, come check it out, and I guarantee that you won't be bored with your country. :) :D
