After I played Cities XL, really enjoy it until got push back after loading up my saves. Dunno if this is related to memory leaks and some players having the same problems with XXL too. Yes I did save it and load it from the right spot and still doesn't come out right.

Anyway few recommended me to try out Skylines, look interesting, but I wasn't too comfortable with cartoonish graphics. Steam's store page has those silly graphics and I came across something online or searching for more details, had screenshots of Skylines looking almost the real thing. If that is true, how come Steam's store page isn't showing it?

Do I need to grab a mod or two for that to work, or just the settings?? Could be something else that isn't related to Skylines I saw online elsewhere.

just watch a few of these videos to see if you like or not. however, this game is so much better than Cities XL. the cartoonish graphics, particularly the vans with the hotdogs or doughnuts on the roof, initially put me off getting the game but that reservation very quickly dissipated once i started playing it.

The Workshop gives you a lot of opportunities to change your game. Almost to the smallest details.

Best is to just look around on the Workshop and always read the comments for each mod to find out out if they still work or not.

Well I mess with it for some time and didn't like it, so I requested refund on steam. Gonna stick with Cities XXL.
I respect your decision, but in my opinion Skylines is superior in every way. Boreal map theme has less cartoonish colours and workshop can provide much nicer looking buildings :)

Thanks, many would rage posts on me if I mention it. Guess some like and dislike things out there. I think the reasons I like XXL is because it is more challenge in my opinion. I know it doesn't have underwater pipelines or power lines that needed to be connected. The reasons is it more challenge is that roads and zone clipping can be annoying if you don't pay attention what you are doing. It a good ol game on your spare time to mess around with.

Yeah I played Cities XL Platinum before Skylines was a thing, and kind of liked the realistic look of the city and the decorative filler tool, but hated that it didn't have any deep mechanics in regards of water, power, garbage or other city services. I also wasn't a fan of the stupid looking detached houses, the citizens or the fact that the traffic disappears when there is a roundabout. Kind of a lazy game built on top of the original Cities XL I would say.

I too think that Skylines lacks certain type of challenge to build a big city, but if I need challenge, I just go back to SimCity 4. For me Skylines is a wonderfully moddable city painter :p

Well thanks for the inputs. I am gonna try build a city I use to grew up in. But first I have to google the map and lay out how the city was made, plus the map editor, that can be handy. For some reasons, Cities Skyline wouldn't look right for my project, just too cartoonish. But on the other hands XXL seem about right for me. It would be interesting to build and watch it grow.

I think it's a great game and it's fun to just dip into it now and again to kill a few hours. Easy to get to grips with as well, which is a good thing for us professionals who are on the move and just don't have the time to spend a week learning the game.
