I`d love to do something like that with RTW2, but vacations are coming up. Maybe as of September. :)

Hello fellow Forumites.

As threatened a few weeks ago, I`d like to make an interactive AAR. I will chose RTW2 for it and contrary to the initial idea, the players will not be Governors or Generals, but all players will constitute a council.

Things the players will decide:

1. Research

RTW2 has a nice Tech Tree. There are two basic Techs that have to be researched in order to unlock the appropriate Civil / Military Tree. These two Techs will be researched first. As soon as this has happened, the players will be asked to chose a new Tech every time the current got finished.

2. Diplomacy

This is a bit tricky. But the idea is, that at the start of the game (and every time new factions get discovered) the council will decide the general stance toward each known other faction. To be precise, the decision will be, which kind of agreement I am allowed to sign with the appropriate faction (for sometimes these factions will address me). Possible stances would be:

None
Trade Agreement
Non-Aggression-Pact
Alliance

So when you decide, that the stance toward, say, Sparta would be "Trade Agreement", but the Spartans would suddenly offer an Alliance, then I would reject.
Players are free to decide when and where to start a war respectively how to react to a declaration of war. In these cases the council decides, whether to conquer enemy territory respectively how much of it.

Things the players will maybe decide:

Economy and Recruitment. I don`t want to go down the micromanagement road. So it makes no sense to let the players decide which building to construct in which city or what unit to recruit in which province. But maybe it is a possibility to let the council decide, how much of the available funds get used for recruitment in 10% increments. So when the council agrees on 40%, then 40% of the available funds will be spent on recruitment and 60% on construction.

And here is the first vote (anyone can participate):

The first thing to decide is, which faction to play. I`d prefer to play a civilized faction with more than one city at the beginning, so it will be central / eastern Mediterranean. Please vote for:

1. Rome
2. Carthage
3. Macedonia
4. Seleucia
5. Egypt
6. Epirus
7. Pontos
8. Armenia

If you have questions or suggestions toward the "Interactivity", please let me know. I have not decided yet when exactly, but I intend to start this thing during August, so this is not a signup thread. I just want to see general interest and maybe opinions concerning the game per se.

Because it is the better game as well in general as specifically for an interactive project.

While I agree it is probably the best suited for an interactivity project, I would disagree it is the better game. Emphatically.

Regardless, I vote for Rome as the faction to play.

If we are going to play rome 2 i reccomed the usage of this mod: radious. Why ? If not the game is too unbalanced and no difficulty at all. This goea feally for any nation but specially rome. It adds better fighting mechanics. Ai dont just. Crumble hundred of units etc four seasons and so on.

I just want to drop by and say that I am always playing vanilla. As soon as we have determined a faction to play with (and there seems to be a tendency :p), we (respectively: you) will vote for one of the three families and the difficulty level. :)

Hello fellow Forumites.

Well, I am kinda surprised that there is so much support for Rome. I would have thought, that something else would get chosen. But the people have spoken, and so we will rebuild the Roman Empire. Now we just have have to determine two things:

I. Family

There are three families to chose from:

Julii

25% penalty on public order in case of presence of foreign cultures
10% moral bonus when fighting barbarians
Bonus of +4 for cultural conversion

Junii

Diplomatic penalty with all other factions
Bonus of +4 on public order in case of presence of Latin culture
Bonus of 10% on wealth generated via agriculture

Cornelii

Bonus of 3% on tax income
Diplomatic bonus toward all Hellenic factions
Penalty of -4 on public order due to presence of Latin culture

II. Difficulty

Should the game be played on "Normal" diffculty or, in order to make it more challenging, on "Hard"?

Please vote.

Here the first version of the rules.

SPQR is an interactive RTW2 campaign, in which the players constitute the Senate and makke decisions toward internal politics, diplomacy and research.

I. Responsibilities

The Senate decides on the following issues:

A. Research

The Senate decides, which technology is to be researched next from the point the initial military / civil tech got researched.

B. Internal Politics

The Senate appoints / unseats commanders to Legions / Fleets as necessary.

C. Family Politics

In the case that a member of the family is in the public eye for specific reasons, the Senate decides how to deal with the appropriate issue.

D. Diplomacy

The Senate decides the diplomatic stance of the Republic toward other people. The possible stances are:

- None
- Trade Agreement
- Non-Aggression-Pact
- Alliance
- Client

The Senate also decides, whether the Republic declares war on other people and the appropriate war goals.

II. Updates

The GM will write a new update as a result of the following occurrences:

- Tech researched
- War goals achieved
- Family member part of an Event

In an update the GM describes the important developments since the last update and points out the necessary decisions to be made by the Senate. At this point of time the Senate can come up with own initiatives like declaring a new war, change diplomatic stances or assign other commanders.

The Senate has to vote on all necessary questions / new initiatives within 48 hours after the update got posted.

If you have questions, please feel free to ask. And please keep voting for families / difficulty levels.
