Poland could definitely provide some interesting opportunities, especially with the diverse cultures that would be present, and I like the idea of it being formed from both Prussia and Russia as part of a treaty.

That is why I suggested Lithuania as well. We have Poles over in Danubia, but they really aren't a big thing. There are as much Ukrainians as Poles in our country.
If we release poland from Prussia and Russia can we remove the silly placement of polish cores in pomerania and a few other german provinces(not states can give a better list later) since its horrible unrealistic to give them the cores in the first place since those provinces are nearly 100% german and are not even core polish from a historical stand point.
What does everyone feel about maybe being a Scandinavian nation, like Sweden? I'm not sure how we could model a new Constitution though.
I'm still liking the Poland idea the most, but I will play no matter what country it is.

Releasable nations work best for constitutional conventions unless we're going to coup a random nation.
Eh, I am iffy on the idea as playing as Poland, I just don't see the appeal, as for Scandinavian nations, it seems like the game would have no real exciting element as we would all end up going towards unification. We could try as playing as a releasable nation on North America, such as New England, and play as being a dominion eventually breaking free. There are also the releasable nations in Europe, such as Brittany or Ireland, though I don't know how strong the survival prospects of those nations are. Ideally we would be playing as something new, unique, with potential to grow... And removed from our old playing field of Eastern Europe.
I certainly feel like I'm back in an interactive AAR. Even our planning/discussion threads generate pages of comments when I look away for an hour.
It sounds like racism, which was undeniably a pretty powerful part of South African history and culture, is an issue we just can't ignore. I can't really think of a good way to deal with it in an AAR - if I've got to choose between choosing a new country and forcing people to RP as white supremacists, I'll choose a new nation every time.
(Side note: The other option to keep South Africa would be to revise history such that the Boers never settled around the Cape, leaving only the possibly less racist British peoples and the native population - but this would be a pretty severe historical revision!)
I'll say three things: 1) I want a civ, not an unciv (we'll uncivs for later), and 2) I want to keep the idea of drafting a constitution, which has so far been greeted with enthusiasm. I'd prefer a releasable nation to give us as much of a blank slate as possible, or failing that, a nation that's recently been formed. 3) It also shouldn't be a very minor nation, like Luxembourg or Danzig - rather, it should be something with the potential to become powerful.

- Two Silicies - Has some originality to it but a lot of history as well, could become Italy, close to the Federation, etc.
- Ukraine - Less central location makes it less appealing to me
- Greece - Starts small and weak and expansion in an Interactive AAR might be difficult, disastrous, or chance-based
- Portugal - Had an established government and a world-spanning minor empire
- Catalonia - Too small
- Baltic States - Too small
- Sweden - I don't know - I don't really have an opinion on this
- Australia/New Zealand/Java/Philippines/Ireland - I don't know why, but I don't really like the islands
- Completely new African nation - I feel like we'd only have sort of ducked the problem with South Africa, but it could work (I guess), might have too little history to do anything interesting with

I like Portugal or perhaps a releasable nation like Quebec with a successful 1836 rebellion, You have the French-English ethnic tension and history. Texas could be interesting also.
Texas is not a good idea, as your existence depends on the dicision of the US.

Quebec does sound interesting though. I rather like the idea of playing as a releasable North American nation.
We could start the AAR with a constitutional convention after independence is won from Mexico.
