Interactive AAR Discussion - Edge of Darkness

Probably either A) They don't care for it or don't know much of it or B) People are not interested in playing a 1-3 province minor

Belgium or Poland or perhaps...Russia. I know I know big big country but it may be worth a shot though with tending a big nation with lot of macro and micro+ managing an interactive AAR it could be a nightmare for Thunderhawk.

It is diverse and not a homogeneous country unfortunately in addition to being a management nightmare for some players but it has several avenues of expansion and there is always the Czar!

Guys... I don't want to do another eastern europe game. Portugal is the best option, since it's not too small, it can industrialize fairly easy, can beat up anyone except for the GP's, there is an uneasy feeling between the mainland Portuguese and the one overseas (because of the whole Brazil fiasco) and, it can colonize like nobodies business! I feel like playing with the same area, but just being on the other side of the coin won't be as much fun as ya'll say it is. I think we shouldn't start off with a GP because there is actually some threat and a strive to become great. I don't want to be stuck in country-threatening wars every few years.

I'm kind of biased towards Eastern Europe because it is my favorite region, but Belgium and Portugal are fine. I still like Russia and Poland the best though.

I'm still not a fan of the Poland option, but I quite like the idea of it being in Russia.
I feel Belgium is too small and Portugal and Catalonia are rather small as well, plus rather too homogeneous for my taste.

Looks like opinion is against playing in Eastern Europe again, but no consensus has been reached on who to play in Western Europe. Well, these debates are going around in circles, so lets just have a decision made.

Rule of thump danubians cannot agree on anything at all, therefore everything must be a vote or descision made for them. Frankly ThunderHawks we will all probably play what ever country you pick so take one you like.

I'm working on it. Something came up today and I didn't have a chance to devote as much thought as I'd like to the subject - but I still plan to give you a final decision soon.

My two are not small and not in Eastern Europe. I don't consider Belgium small though

Poland and Two Sicilies feel too close to the Danube and while Portugal and Spain both had constitutional revolutions circa 1836, both feel like they have too much history behind them to give the level of freedom and uncertainty that I want in this AAR. So with that in mind...

I choose Belgium.

I'm going to PM Qorten and request permission for the AAR proper now. I'll let you all know when it's up.

Now a small editorial notes:

Belgium has a small problem insofar as that it's sometimes curbstomped by the Dutch and Prussia at the start of the game, so I may give us a helping hand to at least secure initial independence.

I'm still thinking of a name for this AAR. "Edge of Darkness" doesn't really work anymore, so I was thinking "Heart of Europe" or "Edge of Europe", though that doesn't really have that HoD twang to it.

Probably, but I'm conspiring to pad things out a bit so the Convention is in 1835, so the game can start in 1836.

Belgium seems like a good choice, having played a few games as them there really are a lot of directions we can take. I'm really looking forward to this one, I already had characters written up for Poland, Belgium, and Spain lol.
