I looked at the DDs and watched the WW Wednesdays but I could not find anything that explains how intelligence is handled in HoI 4? Will there be spies again and missions. Is there scope for a DD on this or for someone during the Wednesdays to show who it works?

I'm pretty sure they said in an early DD that intelligence was cut from the base game. I think that they didn't like the first implementation, and wanted to get it right later (presumably in a DD) if they decided to add it in.

I must have missed that. This would be kind of similar to HoI 2. Intelligence/Espionage were only introduced with the Doomsday expansion (anyone wanting to play until 1953?! ;) ).

However, since the concept has already been introduced in a preceeding game, i think that it cannot be simply cut away in any successor. We also have seen quite a lot of screenies which showed espionage options and the ability of staging coups certainly represent a feature many do await from vanilla. Intelligencs techs would also remain futile without a proper espionage system. Regardless of the detail level it might have.

IMHO I'd be fine if they add it later and instead of the one in HOI3 a proper espionage system is put into play, but there are already intelligence techs/focuses in the game separate from actual espionage and with what they have added the path is a bit different than it's predecessors and other parts of the nation running and building which didn't get much attention or were non-existent in previous installments are now part of this game.

I read in a early preview news article that if you have good intelligence (could be decryption modifier) you can discover enemy warplans on you, giving you time to move your troops to counter it before it happens.

Leading to great interactions where you could be designing fake invasion plans to fool the enemy.

If that's still in, then that's a much much better intelligence system than sending X numbers of spies to Y to launch a smear campaign with a Z % success rate.

Could be a fun game to draw the most confusing plans possible in MP and keep having them discovered through bad encryption.

I don't find a quote right now, but if I remember right, that feature has been scrapped. So it won't be in the base game.
