As for me, I really like the int system.
Yes, it IS some sort off click&forget - click again thingy, but its always a great feeling if you get an effect. Dead Josef, for example :D
Automatic spy placement would be a good idea, though.

I haven't played much DD - just 2 ganes as France - but as far as i noticed, the system was way too powerful for the money getters - and a hanicap for plan-economie nations like the SU...

I am really excited who it changes the MP games. Bet spyhunting and minister assisination are great for player interaction.
Though this will be evil if you have to fight at multiple borders

Good point about the 'money getters'. It had not occurred to me. Of course the Soviet relationship with "money" is different from that of the west. I suppose you therefore have to regard it as an abstract resource, like all the other resources are abstracted and amalgamated, of costs associated with carrying out these tasks, and not simply the acquisition of coinage.

Planting spy - 20-30 $
Attempt to assasinate enemy minister - 200$
Yelling "BOOM headshot!" when you get that German 25% manpower minister down - priceless!

For me, once the novelty of the systmen wore off it adds huge amounts of fun to the "buildup" years of 36-39. Really gives you something else to play with!
Indeed. I got alienated from HoI2 because of the bore-up bit, but now I actually have something to do while waiting for 1939. At least with those nations that can afford active spying like the USSR. Dang, got my relations with USA down to -200 with weekly sending of a spy and still couldn't get above six...
As Soviet Union I could also mass murder foreign spies. I had eight spies working for counter intelligence and I could locate 4-6 spies at once, reducing the number from above 50 to something around 30.

Uhm... Maybe i didn't undestand that post at whole (*cough* translate leo, go! :D ), but even IF the ressource is abstract, the SU has much lower int capacity as other market-economie nations, lets say USA and France (compared to the IC they posses and assign to consume goods)...
At least for the '45 scenario, that looks pretty unfair...

*cough* I am repeating myself...

Problem with spying is same as slider moves, you got to remember to do it
on time.

Should have an auto button for it also, so you can defend yourself without
having to pause in the middle of a exciting campaign to click the "spy" buttons. The sliders were bad enough.

I think it's a useless distraction and no improvement on HOI2 vanilla.

automate it or have an "off" option.

1. Get 10 counter-spies.
2. Purge your country.
3. Here you have it: no succesful foreign spy activity within the next year :D

I like the concept, but not the implementation of it. It is just back
to micromanagement hell in its current incarnation, we need to be able
to automate and prioritize the different spy missions.

I've been mostly using steal blueprint and counter spy, with the
occasional smear campaign so far. what I don't like about
steal blue prints is that you quite often get blue prints that
you have no use for(land doctrines outside your path or specific
naval blueprints as USSR). It would logical to be able to prioritize the fields
of research your spies are working to infiltrate and get blue prints from and
it you shouldn't be able to steal blueprints you cannot use.

I also think the system should have some more complex factors involved,
e.g. running over Germany you should have some way to simulate the
end war race for German rocket, aviation and nuclear technology.

maybe something for HOI 3....
