Intel asset duration?

I was planting assets in the UK by the time I was done with the airforce one I realized that I didn't have any in the army and civil service anymore.

Do assets have a duration or they have a random chance to get caught?

As far as I know, once that asset is in place, there is no duration, and they do not get caught. They help with intelligence, mostly.
