In my current game as Italy i was able to PU Austria. Austria in this game has about 4 or 5 provinces in Europe(now completely landlocked), and a huge colonial empire in north and south America. This PU has gone on for 50 years and the option to integrate them came up. Now as an inexperienced player (call me noob if you will) i thought it was different then annexation. Maybe some stability drop and stuff like that, but after i got them to agree after the third try, things went... let's just say bad. Stability drop is a given, but i got 50 infamy for it, and in a months time i had 8 wars and about a dozen huge(20-40 regiments) and three times as much smaller revolts on my hand. Tried to scramble my forces, but every few days another revolt popped up. So as any sensible person would do, i reloaded. I have a lot of soldiers mostly in Italy(140ish according to the number above the military slider), but there was no way i could have gotten out of this with my BB going into the normal zone in about 22 years.

So here's the questions:
Is there anyway to win this situation, or should i leave it at that?
Is there any way that i get all that land in any peaceful manner, without all the BB? I know there's inheritance, but i have no idea when it happens, and what triggers it.
Is it possible to do something about so much BB in a reasonable amount of time?
Did the revolts happen because the BB, because i annexed the nation, or both?

1.Do not use integrate option, it gives you 1 infamy per province which is nasty when integrating large country. Maintain high relations with Austria and you will inherit them when your king dies sooner or later.
2.Inheritance, each time your king dies, you have a chance of inheriting your pu's. Chances are increased by high relations, prestige, trust (goes up over time), diplomatic skill (expand your sphere of influence, it gives 1 dip per country).
3.No, you can release vassals (removes 2 infamy per province released) but you dont want to lose land.
4.Revolts via events happend because of exceeding infamy limit and other revolts happend because of no core land (nationalism etc.)

The mechanics are not exactly clear, but along with high relations check that they have high trust towards you. Anything above "They are willing to trust us somewhat" (this is the neutral level) helps. You may very well have +200 relations, but trust takes some time to accumulate. So if "they view us with distrust" or anything less (deep distrust, etc), its a problem.

EDIT: Check this thread http://forum.paradoxplaza.com/forum/showthread.php?541192-What-defines-whether-I-inherit-a-nation

The thread starter says "The situation is quite literally perfect" for a PU with Taira. Actually, it's not. If you look closer to the screenshot you will see that it reads "They deeply distrust us". Would you merge with someone you don't trust?

Oh trust is not an issue. I checked after i basically stole a war and 3 provinces from them in a totally peaceful way. I think the wording is "they trust us implicitly" :)
I was reading up on the wiki about this thing, there's something about if prestige is below 0 you loose the PU. Is that still true, or just something that got left in from previous versions? That might be the dealbreaker if it still holds up. I have -22 prestige. I had a lot of cores that remained after i formed Italy, and now they expired making me lose about 60 prestige. I'm not happy about that, but let's hope my king is not the dying kind. At least until gain back the prestige :)

Well you should've taken your cores x)))))))
Now, what I would recommend you to do is that you switch your capital to an Austrian cultured province and culture-shift if you can
That way, when you inherit, you will get cores on all the colonized provinces
:DDDDDDDDDDDDD

I should have taken my cores, but to be honest my playstyle is a weird one. I try not to go the dominate everything route. I unified Italy in 1678(started in 1453), so i take my damn time with things :)
