I'll be running the game on a desktop, but I have a couple of friends who've only got laptops using integrated graphics. Has anyone tried running the beta on Intel Iris?

I have an older laptop with a first gen intel I7 chip with an NVidia gt555m 2gb (I think) chipset, and it played the beta flawlessly. So that was a bit of an advantage for me there, since it had a dedicated graphics chip.
It's still a fairly beefy laptop so it can't be used as a benchmark for what you're talking about. I do know on my old tower I was using a much older radeon graphics chipset before they switched to the R designators. The current software from them identifies it as a R5 series now, even though it definitely is not the current gen of those, and it ran the beta without any problems. My current desktop is a ryzen rig with a GT1060 and I'm not having any problems so far.
Probably doesn't help you at all with your question, but I've managed to play the beta on several sets of hardware of various age with no problems.
If your friends laptops are fairly newer, they can possibly play it, but with a little choppiness. This isn't a first person shooter though, so framerates won't be that much of a problem.
I remember the days of getting MechCommander 1 working on a 486, so I have a lot of experience on my side getting things to work when they theoretically weren't supposed to be able to though.

Integrated Graphics as in an Intel HD Graphics Chip? No, most definitely not. On the Steam Page it says that you need at least a Nvidia® GeForce™ GTX 560 Ti or AMD® ATI Radeon™ HD 5870 (1 GB VRAM). I think that is a very low minimum. Even if you take one of the newer Intel HD Graphics 620, they are roughly only 1/3 as powerful as the nearly 7 years old Nvidia card.

There's no way. I have a business laptop that exceeds the recommended hardware on RAM and processor (it has a much stronger processor than my desktop actually), and it struggles to run games with much less stringent graphics requirements because it has integrated graphics.

Well, my one friend is running an Intel Iris chipset on his recent-model Macbook Pro, so that's the ballpark I'm hoping for.

Probably not. My laptop has stronger hardware than the recent MacBook Pro's and it can't run games with less requirements than BattleTech. I didn't play the Beta so it's just a "probably not", but I'm quite sure. Iris is still integrated and it isn't meant to handle modern games.

I ran the beta on an ASUS ROG G73jh Laptop. This is an older laptop with an ATI Radeon Mobility graphics controller. I ran into problems depending on what version of Win10 I was running. But, otherwise, no problems with it.

But it's a turn based game, it might stutter like hell during the mechs movement, but once there it might look allright. If it's just about playing the game versus playing it nicely.....*shrugs* It might work. They'd most certainly have to turn all the graphics options to their lowest settings. worst case is to give it a try, and if it doesn't work at all, then start saving pennies to buy some new laptops. With the prices of hardware coming down, you can buy a fairly decent laptop with $500 that should be able to run this game fairly easily. Might take a few months of saving, but always worth it.

Yeah, I'm trying to talk him into rebuilding his desktop rig. Ryzen has made it incredibly cheap. Hell, the RAM costs as much as a CPU/Mobo combo these days.

It is going to be hit or miss because the Intel integrated chipsets are so much less powerful.

Some people have been able to run the beta and others couldn't. Unfortunately no one will be able to tell you yes or no with any definite knowledge because the game has been changed so much since beta.

And we were running beta software to boot, so it might be a lot more optimized at launch. Flip a coin at that point to either buy the game and give it a try, or wait until they can afford a new computer/laptop.
When I built my latest desktop here, I spent $1600 on it (that was with the equivalent of an employee discount mind you, so the actual retail was probably closer to 2k). It's playing everything quite nicely. I haven't gotten far cry 5 yet to see how punishing that game is on hardware, but from the looks of it it's going to require a pretty beefy computer.
When I was in computer sales, I always told customers to "buy as much computer as you can comfortably afford without breaking the bank" to avoid that machine being too outdated in a couple of years to do anything useful, and buy doing that you can prolong its life with upgrades down the road. If you buy the cheapest POS you can afford now, you're limiting yourself down the road, and will have to buy another POS sooner. At least buy buying more than you might need right now, you can puch back the timeframe of needing upgrades, and can rebuild your savings for something later on.
Just the way I always do it, since I tend to build monster rigs, and use them for 6-7 years before I need to upgrade, or rebuild.

I played the beta on a Intel HD 4000 chipset. My laptop also has 16 GB of RAM though with an i7 processor, so that tends to help things out. The framerate was a little low, but not to the point of stuttering. I was playing on low graphics.

I would be crushed if I can't play the release version. :/

Thanks, everyone. I figured this might be the case, I just wanted to see if we had any first- or second-hand experiences before I sent a Steam gift. :)
Just try playing your copy of the game on his computer first, then you'll know if he can play it or not

I'm using an HP 110-194 desktop and it ran the Backer Beta Skirmish . . . passably. I don't recommend it but it is possible.
